Day 2: Watch the Eyebrows!

It's totally sweet that this cabin sleeps 20+ and has a kegarator.

Day 2: Watch the Eyebrows!

Postby necklessone » 15 Sep 2014, 18:13:14

“Shit! Shit shit shit shit!” Mister E. Meat cries, pacing around the remains of Furin. The rest of the group group has gathered now. Some turn away, some vomit (no shame in that), and some are just shell shocked. And one unfortunate soul goes slack-jawed, the freshly lit joint falling out of his mouth.

FWOOOOOOSH!

Thanksfully, it’s been a damp summer and the trees are (well, were) healthy. The intense flame blackens the back and chars the leaves but the trees themselves do not ignite. The same is not true of your vehicles and Furin’s remains. They’re burning quite merrily in the gravel driveway of the cabin.

Mister E. Meat is knocked off his feet as the gasoline combusts, but as soon as the smoke clears he’s back up sans eyebrows. He sprints for the house, grabs the tap, and sprays beer all over his smoldering hair.

With no clue what else to do, the rest of you follow him in.

SCENE OMITTED
- No cell service, “What the hell, man”, “Got to get help”, “No one for miles”, “What could have done that?”, and so on. Standard issue exposition stuff. Back to the gore. -

“It doesn’t matter,” MEM mutters, swinging a bottle of Vodka around. “I knew this placed was cursed. We’re not going to get out of here alive.” He takes another deep glug.

“Would you shut the fuck up and let us think,” Visigoth shouts, turning to face Mister E. Meat. “All you’ve done is panic and drink.”

“That’s better than panic and talk. At least this way I’ll die oblivious.” Glug glug glug. “Maybe even take one of the monsters with me if they drink too much of my blood.”

“That’s enough!” Visigoth clenches his fists and takes a step towards Mister E. Meat. Startled, Mister E. Meat steps back…directly onto a loose board. His arms flail comically as he falls. There’s a loud SQUISH as he falls back into the silver rack of fireplace tools and is impaled by an errant spire. Suddenly his hair regrows…all over his body, actually.

Mister E. Meat, Wolf - Stumbled

A few hours later, everyone has gathered around the couch. Mister E. Meat’s body has been quietly dumped in the pyre outside. The plan is to pair up and search for anything that could be of use. Methods of communication, vehicles, things to barricade the cabin. Clearasday draws the short straw and opts to go alone instead of as a threesome beacuse, “they probably only come out at night.”

Nope. You hear a gunshot, but Clearasday is never seen again.

Clearasday, human hunter - Mauled

Today’s vote:
Who will try and take the leaky boat across the lake to get help?

(This is a lynch vote, day ends in ~24 hours).

Well, that was a completely unexpected and welcome surprise. Except for losing our vigilante, that is... But still, one wolf down.

[So GM, if you would be so kind, was that the actual maul vote or the result of some unexpected 'Can't play after all'?]

Woo! I was kind of resigned to dying early because we seem to like killing off all the Day 1 tie people usually. But now I'm the alternate wagon to a wolf, that's pretty good luck. Maybe I can be the Fool, and die second to last. Visigoth can be the Virgin, he might even live. Of course then it turns out he was a wolf all along because that's the twist ending.

You know what it smells like to me is that Secretive House of ???? game. You know, the one that had a bunch of secret factions making it super easy to lynch a wolf early on -- you probably remember it. This game has a few figurative question marks, too.

What I'm saying is there might be worse things out there than wolves.

This SHOULD be right, assuming I correctly keyed in every vote

MEM - 5 - Ravebomb, San, Rictus, DOM, Visigoth
Admetus - 4 - Jokerfish, That PJ, Zark, Visigoth, Ionitor
Visigoth - 4 - Admetus, Okaros, Aldax, sphenodont
DOM - 2 - MEM, Ionitor, Anzig
Blindsniper - 2 - Hellheart, Simple_Simon
Okaros - 2 - Snake, Omega
Omega - 2 - rekard, dferrantino
Ravebomb - 2 - Meta4, ICB
Meta4 - 1 - Ryvvn
Simple_Simon - 1 - Blindsniper
Aldax - 0 - Visigoth
Ryvvn - 0 - Okaros
CAD - 0 - DOM

Only thing to note here: Visigoth's last vote for MEM dropped Admetus to 4, but that's not reflected here. I need some way to represent that. I'll figure it out later.

[+] Day 1
[00:12] Okaros for Ryvvn ( 1 )
[00:47] Snake for Okaros ( 1 )
[00:48] rekard for Omega ( 1 )

With two brothers amongst our gathering, it appears that Anzig may be playing the Fool.

The other one is correct that Visigoth displays the trappings of the Virgin and should die last. Few of those from the Darkness would claim to have True Knowledge this early in our Trial. However, his Innocence hides an understanding of strategy that I did not have a moment to consider when I attempted to keep him alive last night.

((So, half the people think that Ionitor's last-minute switch was suspcicious, and the other half seem to think that Visigoth thinking that was suspicious and moving his vote accordingly was also suspicious, is that about right? With multiple factions, I'm sure we're seeing something in play here beyond normal human foolishness - but definitely something to get from the voting yesterday, and from the people jumping on the early votes today.))

Journal Entry - Day 21:

The most amazing thing happened yesterday! A girl talked to me! She asked me what my major was and I stammered out something along the lines of "I like music a lot" and then I gave her a "Jell-O shot" and then she said she was going to go skinny-dipping but I don't like the water it's very cold and also probably full of snakes. Still, this is an interesting turn of events that bears watching. Also, we used a majority vote system to alter the laws of probability and uncovered what appears to be a werewolf.

A girl talked to me!

While I owe you Nothing, my Explanation has already been provided. The Virgin, known to some as Visigoth, who revealed himself through his Self Assurance in his Accusation of Aldax, was in danger of dying before his Appointed Time, which was best stopped through my own Vote of Force, but did not Account for the Virgin using his own Force to maximize its Potential. I fail to understand how that is not Perfectly Clear.

I think Visigoth didn't have time to move his vote in response to Ionitor. I think they were simultaneous snipes.

Visigoth's was done in (or can be argued as) self-defense. Ionitor was in no personal danger, so his action can only be interpreted as protecting Visigoth or MEM. Since Visigoth was already acting to protect himself, it suggests he was not in collusion with Ionitor.

Either that, or he had a specific reason for wanting to bury Admetus that warranted more than leaving it up to random chance.

Anyway, simplest explanation is that he tried to save MEM, but failed by being out-sniped.

Since MEM hit 2 pretty early, and that's when he became a "wolf in danger," the list of suspicious votes is kind of long. There are quite a few people who tied someone else up with MEM or pushed someone in front of him. On the other hand, none of the votes on MEM (except of course the first one) could really be called safe, so it's not just Visigoth that looks more human there.

Dferrantino, why only Sphenodont or Ionitor? Those two are just the last moves, and they'd obviously be up for more scrutiny. Out of all of the votes, I'm not sure a wolf would be so blatant. There are 10 other spots that could be votes to save MEM that would be safer spots to sit as a wolf.

I think that question assumes a lot about how the game is set up. Maybe any secret roles are one-off monsters. Maybe there's one secret "controller" faction that obviously doesn't have any wolf members. Maybe there are potential "wolf" factions, and now that we've "chosen" one by voting for him, that's the only faction with special powers for this game. Maybe it's an everyone's special game. Maybe it's standard and the GM is lying about extra roles.

I assume nothing, really, except he has stated that there are multiple factions. I am asking if there is possibly overlap in the factions.

Beyond that, since we have established that one faction is Wolf, I am under the assumption that the goal is to eliminate that faction until evidence points to another conclusion.

(e) that is an interesting attempt to deflect a question that actually didn't involve you, though.

A wise man would say that the eagle's eye is most effective when applied from afar, and that trying to find the salmon when you've just launched from the shore is often fruitless.

A wiser man would agree, but counter with the fact that the search must begin somewhere.

I'm going to revenge vote on Anzig, as he was the first to push anyone (notably, me) up to 3 votes yesterday, and that's solidly in the window of voters that I'd be suspicious of. Still need to put that end-of-day under a microscope and see what can be seen.

Edited in my retraction tally and the timestamp tally.

I finally got the Split VBA function to work after a couple of false starts, most notably 30+ minutes spent finding out that I need to use Range.Text instead of Range.Value for cells that contain colons and are being formatted as times.

((It was a night kill.))

Did anyone else notice the little evasion there? Given the setting I would've guessed that one of the hidden factions has a nightkill mechanic.

Voting for Anzig for absolutely no reason. I may be planning to change this vote eventually.

I am not buying the votes for visigoth. Without ionitor, visi just removed himself from a 3 way tie.

Ionitor, I could possibly see, but I also think he's too savvy to make such a dumb move as to protect a wolf in that fashion.

Unless ionitor and Admetus are both wolves, this is fishy.

Hh, evasion was noted, but the op still says cause of death was a maul.

Well, I guess I shouldn't have gotten in the way of an answer from necklessone, but I was attempting to point out that I think you've misread him. He never promised there were multiple factions.
signup thread wrote:Also, this game is not vanilla. There are hidden rules and roles. There will be no conversions, but there may be no more than two hidden factions.

That upper limit doesn't rule out 0 hidden factions. (e- it's not even really worth using as an upper limit)

And since when is it notable that I'd be interested in contemplating the structure of the game? I'm all about puzzling out the rules based on the results.

When one leg of a table is shortened, do you saw it off entirely so that it can remain stable? Not usually. If we don't have an econ text book to shove under it, the best bet is to get some sandpaper and file down the other legs, too.

That's assuming we're talking about a table, with some unknown number of legs, and not a singular pillar or something. Maybe a maypole?

So the wolves bring stability to the table, eh?

Well, as a metaphor it's a work in progress. Give me a few more minutes and I'll come up with something involving cars and traffic.

For now, it's a table. With evil cookies and sour milk, and if they fall on the floor and kitty gets 'em, it's game over.

But hey! Maybe we're just dealing with face-eating werewolves and only werewolves. I mean, I hope it's just werewolves.

I fucking hate Reavers.

I believe this is correct at the moment:

Anzig : 4 : Ryvvn, Ionitor, DastardlyOldMan, Hellheart
Ionitor : 3 : San, That PJ, Okaros
Visigoth : 3 : Snake, RaveBomb, meta4
Okaros : 1 : rekard
sphenodont : 1 : dferrantino
That PJ : 1 : Anzig
I kind of assume Okaros is out to backstab me until proven otherwise. - DOM

Guys guys guys. Secret factions and whatever, there is one thing we know. We have no idea what they are or will do. So let's not waste precious time arguing about something we know nothing about. For now, let's assume we're killing wolves until a clue is given.

Interesting conversation for day 2 though. Normally day 2 is rather calm.

But there are questions to be answered.

Who was hesitant yesterday?
Who talked too much?
Who switched their vote? And when?
Who tied the votes when MEM was part of the vote leaders?

I wonder I wonder.

If you actually want to know, it went like this. These are my notes I was referring to above when I say there were many other votes that were protective of MEM, and less obvious ones where wolves often like to sit.

[+] People that could be considered to have protected MEM -
That PJ, tied Admetus at 2
SimpleSimon, tied Blindsniper to 2
Ionitor, tied DOM to 2
Anzig, pushed DOM to 3
dferrantino, pushed Omega to 2
ICB, pushed RaveBomb to 2
Okaros, pushed Visigoth to 2
Omega, pushed Okaros to 2
Aldax, pushed Visigoth to 3
Zark, pushed Admetus to 3
sphenodont, pushed visigoth to 4
Visigoth, pushed Admetus to 4
Ionitor, pushed Admetus to 5

[+] People that endangered MEM -
San - MEM to 2
Rictus - tied MEM at 3
DOM - tied MEM at 4
Visigoth - killed MEM

For "who switched their votes," look at necklessone's vote history. For the others, I'm not as interested.

Subject: Rules and Questions

necklessone wrote:If you are a human, your victory condition is to eliminate the wolves.

If you are a wolf, your victory condition is to achieve parity with the humans.

Come on guys, this is vanilla. Except where it isn't.

Also, no one is part of more than one faction. That they're aware of.

Disclaimer - I know it's not critically important to figure this out right now. I just enjoy the speculation.

My current favorite pet theory is that many of us had hidden factions assigned at the start of the game. The first hidden group to suffer a lynch death would activate that group as the wolves for this game. It would fit thematically with Cabin in the Woods. It's not how it happened in the movie, but the idea of choosing our own villains is what I'm liking about it.

-edit-
Where that theory is weak -- how would the first maul have been arranged?

I thought you would be interested given that you said you would be doing the goldfish thingie and those kinds of things go there. But you have edited out the part where you said that. Hmmm.

There is much Truth in the Actions of Yesterday, but the Truth is mostly transparent, and is best Seen through The Filter of Multiple Truths.

Upon further Reflection, the signs of the Virgin may have been Read too strongly: he could not have Targeted his Force upon his initial Choice due to Aldax's words, for Aldax had not yet Spoken. With that Humble Confession aside, it is still a Mark of the Fool to attack Visigoth, for the Lupine Evil would be Fools themselves to attempt such Misdirection when they, in All Likelihood, are still in the dark of the True Nature of this Battle. Indeed, the Little they do Know is that there is One Who Can Read Their Truth and could Destroy such a Plan in its Infancy. While it is not Impossible, the Prophet Occam suggests that Visigoth shall Live.

I never said anything of the sort. Perhaps you have me confused with Hellheart. I didn't bother with continuing his Goldfishinator last round, either.

(And as I said, I had already done this analysis when I was making my earlier comments. But like last round, most of my analysis isn't going to get copied verbatim to the thread. You can tell how much good it did me, I was a crappy human who almost had a perfect record of 0% correct.)

lol. You're right. I'm on my phone and Admetus and Hellheart's avatars are very similar when the icons are smaller in size.

At the same time though, Hellheart did edit out the part where he said he would do the goldfish thingie. Though it has less impact now but still.

I swear, these first two days have caused me to change from my patent pending, trademarked (both registered and unregistered), copyrighted, copylefted, and licensed method of randomly picking for the first two days. Guess I'll just have to work it in later in the game.

It feels odd to be voting on the person that appears to be arguing more for me than I am but so be it. Ionitor is my pick for this days knockdown, drag out, bare knuckled, hard knock, barnburning contest. I'm going with the inverse thought that he was trying to give more cover in an attempt to save Mister E. Meat in the most obvious way possible thus making it impossible for him to be a wolf even though he is a wolf. It's so obvious that it must be true. At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Also doesn't hurt that it helps nudge another name forward in the polls and away from me.
