Day 2

Postby Dystopia » 09 Jun 2015, 05:52:39

*knock knock*

"Who's there?"

"Postman. Letter for sphenodont".

*door opens*
*postman thumbs back pistol hammer*

"Aren't you are little aggressive for a postman?"

"Nah, it's a lettre de cachet. Off to the Bastille with you scum".

"Oh. I'll just get my pants then".

"It doesn't say you get to take pants".

***

*Meanwhile*

"A pistol-packing postman has been seen fleeing the scene of a murder. Early reports indicate the victim was some sort of pancake obsessed hobo".

Votes

Constitutional amendments:

Okaros -
Yes -
Nay - sphenodont, ICB, Okaros, CAD, That PJ

sphenodont -

Nay - ICB, Okaros, That PJ

rekard -

7-zark-7 -
Yes - Rictus, That PJ
Nay - ICB, Okaros

ICB -
Yes -
Nay - Okaros, That PJ

Results

spendont - imprisoned (Austrian 50%)

Okaros - mauled (peasant)

rekard Amendment adopted

1. The King can choose one peasant to be part of his secret service and give him a one time vigilante shot.
2. A new king can be voted on if he gains the majority of the votes of all the population.
3. The king will be king for a minimum of two days.
4. The king will be executed of he guillotines two innocent peasants two days in a row.
5. Prisoners will be able to talk to us while imprisoned.
6. The people can overrule the king and release political prisoners!
7. The king gets free cake.

So RaveBomb should pick a vigilante. I suppose it wouldn't be a secret service if it was public, so via PM. I'm not going to allow the peasant stipulation, whoever RaveBomb nominates will get it, peasant or not.

Elections for king are now open, if anyone wants.

Cake for the cake throne. It crashed my browser. I hope you're happy.

Rule clarification

Proposing an amendment means voting for it. It's just silly otherwise.

I'm not going to take the late modifications because otherwise you'd just get in front and then sub in who knows what at the last minute. If you want to revise your proposal you can withdraw and re-propose it.

Does this mean that we're 50% sure, or that he folded like a wet rag with only a half interrogation?

It means 50% certainty. It's just a reminder that it's a coin flip so far. Tomorrow (if he's still in there) it'll be (something 60%).

Oh. Look at that. Batman is pleased. Something that I don't have clear is: Can the king do the actions of imprisonment and execution on the same day? I would to propose an amendment to the current constitution.

1a. If the Vigilante kills an innocent peasant he will be immediately imprisoned and won't count towards the King's imprisonments.
1b. Only one person at a time can be inducted to the Secret Service.

3a. The elected king can't be mauled while he is king.
3b. Abstentions don't count for majority or any votes. (unless this is the default by Dystopia).

4a. The King will have to guillotine at least once every 2 days.
4b. The King can imprison a person and execute another once per day. It can't be on the same person.

A loophole. Well done Robin. Amendment to rule 1.

1c. The vigilante can't shoot the king.

If I am king I will nominate you Robin, Mister Meat.

One per day. Not both. I didn't really have both in mind when setting up the game. I worry that it'll do terrible things to balance.

1a. If the Vigilante kills an innocent peasant he will be immediately imprisoned and won't count towards the King's imprisonments.

Though things like this don't count to the one per day rule.

3a. The elected king can't be mauled while he is king.

For clarity, a law can't override powers granted through the game rules. Also unenforceable laws won't be enforced. For example a limitation on who the vigilante can shoot, because once you give someone a pistol, you can't really control what they do with it (though you can take it away from him again), only punish them if they do something they shouldn't. Basically think of how these things would work in reality.

3b. Abstentions don't count for majority or any votes. (unless this is the default by Dystopia).

Abstentions don't count by default. But as I've said, no reason that can't change.

Woah, ok. I saw the board had been formed last night but didn't actually check to see that the game had started.

So, if I understand correctly, this is how this works:

Constitutional Proposal: Arm the citizenry!
1. Everyone but the king gets a gun and one bullet, for vigilante purposes.
2. ???
3. Profit.

Bah. Aside from having numerous indignities performed upon my person last night by our "King", now he accuses me of being Austrian? Nonsense!
But I can see why he had issue with losing his royal privileges. Ow.

Proposal:
Proposed amendments will be presented as individual coherent bills, rather than large omnibus laws with unrelated components.

(Example: Secret Service proposal would be made separate from the Penalty for King executing innocents.)

That way, we can ensure that we can get the good stuff out of a proposal in place, without having to vote against it for one or two unrelated (and unwanted) provisions.

Hmm. Thats... not how... politics work.

True enough Michael, although I suspect it's how it should work

How it should work is also not how politics work.

How do you feel about the proposed amendments?

Well, Rekard's already got his own amendment. Also, he's not the hero Paris deserves, but perhaps the one Paris needs. I worry that making him King will trap the bat in committee meetings and lower his effectiveness where we need him most

Running around the city in tights chasing costumed freaks?

Everyone needs a hobby... If he doesn't do it, we may have to

Point. What about arming the citizens

are you still bulletproof?

As far as a I know. I'd rather not test the theory

fair enough

So?

<<redacted/rollup into post below>>
Arm the Citizens: yay
Simplified Amendments: Yay

Bats in our Belfry: Rekard: Nay

More in a bit,

Bullets everywhere: What? No! Jeez.
Simplified Amendments: No. Procedural laws like this are pointless. Your suggestion is reasonable, but it doesn't have to be a law. Just offer your laws in smaller bits if you think that a package deal is harder to pass. (Also, I kind of want to attach a rider to something. It would be such a dirty pleasure.)
Rekard for King: Not yet. Maybe later. King RaveBomb seems to be getting the job done.

Carrying through the improvements from Rekard so they can be voted on.

Proposal - Vigilante restrictions
If the Vigilante kills an innocent peasant he will be immediately imprisoned, and this won't count towards the King's imprisonments.
There can only be one King's Vigilante (Secret Service) at a time.

Proposal - Let's get some executions up in here
The King will have to guillotine someone at least once every 2 days. Since he didn't on Day 1 and this won't go into effect until Day 2, he should execute someone as soon as possible if he has not done so yet.

Lastly, something that didn't go into effect because it wasn't formally adopted into rekard's original constitution.

Proposal - Simpler succession
In the case where there is no King -- such as after the automatic execution of a failing King -- a new King is elected by plurality, not majority. A majority is required to elect a new King when a King is still alive.

I have my final amendments. I'll resume then in one because it's less confusing that way and they are the same thing I said at the beginning.

The Batman Amendment

1a. If the Vigilante kills an innocent peasant he will be immediately imprisoned, and this won't count towards the King's imprisonments.
1b. There can only be one King's Vigilante (Secret Service) at a time.

2a. In the case where there is no King -- such as after the automatic execution of a failing King -- a new King is elected by plurality, not majority. A majority is required to elect a new King when a King is still alive.

4a. The King will have to guillotine at least once every 2 days.

8. If Batman or whoever is king next:
A. He will choose a Robin. He can GA the Batman(or any king) once per game.
B. He will choose an Alfred. He will convince Batman (or any king) to release a prisoner once per game without any buts.
C. He will choose a Joker. That player will be in prison until he reaches 90% something. He'll be able to do everything else like vote, propose, vig, be King, etc. The Joker will only be released after reaching 90%.

That's the Batman Amendment.

Vote for it because it sounds awesome.

Obviously the Joker can't be released.

If you're going to change it, be careful how you word these things. Perhaps:

C. He will choose a Joker. That player will be in prison until he reaches 90% something. He'll be able to do everything else like vote, propose, vig, be King, etc. The Joker can't be released by anyone before he's at 90%.

Yea for Batman Amendment.

Nay for King rekard-Batman. I don't believe in my legislature also being my executive.

The No Paperwork or Children Left Behind Amendment:

1) Anyone voting on an amendment must copy their previous amendment votes into the new post & update the old vote as "Redacted" or similar.

Reason: We like Dystopia, and don't want to see him drown in the end of day wrap-up. He'll drown in some other minutia along the way, & then there will be a muffled thud from the shogoth tank.

2) Styling Mouse and condoms will be made available free of charge at any public dispensary

Reason: My hair is legend, but an unplanned pregnancy can really slow a guy like me down. Do you think KITT would enjoy having a car seat and a perpetual miasma of half gummed cheerios and their inevitable byproducts in his interior?

I would not

There you go

Example:

new votes:
Batman Amendment (presuming I am Alfred): Yay
The No Paperwork or Children Left Behind Amendment: : Yay

existing votes:

Arm the Citizens: yay
Simplified Amendments: Yay

Bats in our Belfry: Rekard as king: Nay

I'm more worried about separation of powers.

Agreed, An urban vigilante as a ruler is the essence of Judge Judy Executioner.

I think you're mixing your metaphors.

No, he's not even playing. Besides, Judge Judy Executioner? You know you'd watch it - I'm bringing Must See TV back baby

Maul votes to Arm the Citizenry. Sith have always been big believers in shooting first asking later.

edit: Actually Maul also wants to vote yes on Simplify Amendments and didn't want to make a new post about it. Because he's not Admetus.

Maul votes No on everything else, especially Rekard who has decided not to favour Maul as his secret serviceman but instead to give it to the jedi-pigdog MEM.

Maul understood how politics worked. He'd been around these parts long enough to understand that the psychotic floating demon woman was almost certainly the one holding all the cards.

And this proved a problem. Because Maul always refused to recognise authority. There was Maul and then there was everyone else. Nobody was King over Maul. There was no way he would accept this woman as his King.

Then Maul's mind turned to the jail and the large gun cache, the scared looks that the villagers gave Maul, and the Sith Lord decided grudgingly that he would need to adapt to survive in this land of mockable accents.

This decision took the better part of a day, so it was almost sundown by the time he reached Ravebomb and informed her of his decision. Maul would recognise King Evil Demon Lady as his Sith Master. This allowed Maul to accept her authority, without having to compromise on his principles. Maul was full of principles. And if the situation went sour, he'd murder her and try to become the master himself. Hell, he'd probably do that anyway in a few days.
THERE IS NO JUSTICE, THERE IS JUST CLEARASDAY.

Maul did ask. Yesterday. Explicitly. And he voted for you. And in return you said you'd name MEM to Maul's coveted position. BETRAYAL MOST FOUL.

Were Maul's words not clear Jedi-pigdog?

Maul does not forgive, Maul does not forget. If you want this Sith's help its your turn to do something.

Oh man, they're having a quid pro quo off over on Tatooine.

Inevitable, really. Politics makes strange bedfellows

Are you implying that Batman and Darth Maul are involved in some kind of relationship?

I wouldn't say relationship. Maul in particular strikes me as more "No Strings Attached"
