Day 7: Burrito-On-A-Stick

Postby DastardlyOldMan » 14 Aug 2013, 20:31:45

The meals set before you were . . . different today. Without Mrs. Whitlow's influence, the kitchens were definitely less organized, and seemingly overnight, formerly sumptious dishes like "Ham" or "Bread" had become a thing of the past, much less anything that required more than two ingredients. The theme seemed to be "Something-on-a-stick" but no one could quite identify what "something" was.

Well, they couldn't ruin a good cheese, could they? He popped another cube in his mouth. And there were many more types of cheese. Or at least, they were on the cheese tray. Another cube. And another.

As Ridcully once more extricated the votes and laid out the count, he looked menacingly at Iron Clad Burrito, sitting next to a quite-empty cheese tray. The frightened wizard looked up, took two steps, and collapsed to the floor clutching his stomach. Suddenly, the burly wizard simply exploded from the inside!

From the midst of the blood and guts spattering across the room, a small crystalline gem arose and floated in front of Ponder Stibbons. The young mage grimaced, as you all started to smell what was written out in front of him.

"Ewww, Gas! That bastard ate nothing but cheese all day!"

As the darkness steamed out of the gem, the diamond flew out of Stibbons' grasp, growing lighter and more transparent as it rushed about the room. You all heard a whisper just before it disappeared entirely:

"Wind"
--
Another night passed quietly. Certainly, this couldn't have been the last of them, but the quiet was certainly welcome. The anticipation was almost more than you could bear as you sat down to a breakfast of . . . ketchup and steak? What was wrong with these people?
--
Iron Clad Burrito - Corrupted Wizard (Wind corrupted to Gas)

((Oh yes they do.))

I got it right on ICB. But all those votes at the end really made me doubt, specially Anvilfang and Wasabi, hence my switch. It looked too damn convenient or suspicious. And another missed maul.

What worries me is that the wolves have SS's mirror. They could redirect the words sent at a specific person to a wolf...

Or they could redirect those words to a human that's likely to be targeted. And then drop a bunch of shadow elements on him.

EDIT: That said, losing corrupted wind is a big fucking deal, considering how much the seer's value climbs over time in a normal game.

EDIT2: I'm pretty sure I know where Omega's penalty votes came from. There may have been other, less visible drawbacks if my mirror conjecture is correct.

So on day 1 both ICB and Mortus voted for Rictus. That's an indication they could have voted together. It also makes almost confirmed how ICB could have tried to protect Mortus.

So on day 3, there might be someone else who could have tried to protect Mortus. On day 3, Wasabi put Visigoth on 2nd place putting him ahead of Mortus. He has a weakness as a wolf of doing that. Yesterday his votes made not much sense. First he votes for me and then just switches when arguments weren't really changing.

So let's first poke at Wasabi and see what's below his fur.

Also I think MEM and Ryvvn can enter some category of superhuman, Ryvvn casting lasting votes on 2 wolves and MEM not only voted for Mortus but on Day 1 he put a 2nd vote for ICB, which is pretty much stupid to do if they are both wolves.

Because the wolves have the mirror...if you received a strong ability (meaning an ability composed of 3+ elements), it is very likely that you have also been targeted by Shadow Cheese. The vote-based backlash could manifest itself in a bunch of ways and some of those might be controlled by the wolves, so be careful. Assuming the HA is large enough, it may be the wolves' only chance of getting through this with a win.

Know what a way to eliminate this avenue of victory would be? Stop using words.

I'm still not entirely sure the wolves actually have the mirror. The flavor text may have just been indicating that SS was no longer under his mirror's protection. Now that we're down one more wolf (and the Air one at that!) I believe we should still be using our Words.

If my assumptions are correct then we are down to 4 wolves, 17 humans. I like those odds.

I would like to point at that ICB was trying to convince everyone not to pay attention to Ozy's list. This has made me more adamant about following it. We currently have 10 Unknowns:

AugenVonSauron
Clearasday
dferrantino
Meta4
RaveBomb
San
simple_simon
stigmata
Visigoth
Wasabi

I'm going to have to catch-up on what happened last night after I went to bed and then look over ICB's votes. Right now I'm getting a human-y vibe from dferrantino, Ravebomb, simple_simon, stigmata, and Visigoth. I'm definitely not putting them on the "Probable Human" list, but I'm willing to give them a free pass for today.

So that would leave:

AugenVonSauron
Clearasday
Meta4
San
Wasabi

Gotta mull this over and I think I need to get to work at some point today...

Meta4 still smells of wolf to me. He tries to continue my bandwagon, says his reasoning is in the first page, gets a request from necklessone to explain himself and then goes quiet. Only to then show up and vote with me against ICB, which puts ICB at a tie, except ICB had not yet switched his vote for Ravebomb so he was not really in danger.

Those are tricks right out of the Wolf play book. Believe me, I know, I have used those tactics in past games.

I'm sticking on Meta4 today. Nothing short of a Seer confirmation or Vig shot will dissuade me.

Do we know for sure that the mirror passes into someone else's possession once it's been dropped? It could just as easily just be a one-time protection and that's it.

That's been my read: losing the mirror wasflavor for power loss after a one-time maul protection.

Okay, then can we stop posting potential nonsense regarding the mirror giving wolves more power?

Seems only 2 likely possibilities:

1. Someone (likely Anzig or myself) was GA protected.

2. The wolves picked up a conversion power and made an attempt.

So if anyone has any clues about this, please step forward.

Also, the wolves have lost Wind and Water so far, right? It's probably still a good idea to stop using our words regardless, but let's start putting together a list of what's available and how we can potentially keep the pressure on.

Sidenote if it isn't obvious: Don't fucking claim an element. I know a bunch of you have already and you should be smacked for it.

So, I'm curious (and we may need clarification from DOM regarding it) but do the earth powers grant GA, or do they immediately grant protection when manifested?

Has anyone received GA protection at all yet? Or received a power that allows you to grant it? I'm looking specifically at our non-elemental earth-aligned friend. Unless you're a wolf, in which case go fuck yourself.

Also, do we have any reason we're mostly clearing stigmata or is it wholly because of the shenanigans on day 1/2 with the power he hasn't reused yet?

I'm not sure people are clearing stigmata as much as moving him back into the "unknown" category from the "probably wolf" category. I'm open to cases being made against him.

I'll have to go back through it, but if I remember correctly the only reason he was "cleared" was because if he was able to use it multiple times (which IIRC he claimed to be able to), his power was "too powerful to be wolfy" which, most of the time, is an invalid assumption anyway. That said, he hasn't used it since.

He's also claimed a non-elemental role and hasn't revealed his affinity. According to the assumptions made based on player numbers, there's another non-elemental that hasn't come out yet, and we're missing the Earth affinity. So either it's stigmata, or it's someone who's in hiding (or laying super low). Either way, that assumption alone gives us a 50% chance that stigmata's a wolf, which is way higher than we'll get with random chance.

I think in this case this is the only time where I'll suggest you actually reveal yourself if you are the other non-ele, especially if you've got Earth affinity.

To the person who requested a PM be sent to me.

The 3rd party claim is air and #REDACTED#.

I'm posting this publicly since I'm already outed as a HA member.
OOC: and to make the game more fun for the ppl who aren't in on the PM chains.

Supposition: there are 6 ppl for each element (4 wizards, 1 corrupted, 1 non-wizard) that gets us to a total of 30 players, leaving one wild card.
I'm guessing that the wild card is a non-wizard, cheese, or a 6th wolf; in that order of probability.

Listed in order of the first death, the dead counts are:
Earth: 2 wiz
Water: 1 wiz, 1 cr, 1 n-wiz
Cheese: 1 wiz 1 n-wiz
Fire: 1 wiz, 1 n-wiz
Air: 1 cr

Ignoring the wild card, the chance of finding corruption at random are 1-in-4 for each of the remaining elements.

You? No. You're already either Earth or non-ele, so there's no point in putting in a claim unless someone else comes forward.

That said, if you've got an answer to my previous question regarding an Earth use on your probable Earth affinity, I'd love to hear it.

Placing my starting day vote on dferrantino.
Reason: suspicious change in activity/demeanor after death of second wolf.
(possible coincidence of him just actually having some time to play today, or just blatant panic after already being suspected for lack of activity)

Meta4

Wasabi

Meta4 I think he owes me some cheese anyways.

I was just confused because SS had said that somebody else may have his mirror, and Omega had a power very similar to FM's...but I didn't target Omega. And then Omega got hit hard by Shadow Cheese, which thankfully didn't lynch him because nobody voted for him.

I wasn't sure if it was a concern at all because certainly other combinations of elements can probably cause similar powers, but I thought that the shadow cheese in addition was quite the coincidence.

I've been asserting that Stigmata is human virtually the entire game. I'd rather not give up on that now just because the other non-elementals are dying off, but my assertion has always been entirely based on his role as a non-elemental. I still don't like voting for non-elementals (frustration vote for Ozy nonwithstanding), but I'm not going to fight against it at this point because your reasoning is sound.

EDIT: Also, both revealed wolves voting for Rictus over Stigmata to barely put Rictus in the lead is awfully damning.

EDIT2:

Are you suggesting that it's possible (or likely) that all of the non-elementals are wolves? And that Ravebomb's random assertion of there being "only" seven types of cheeses may have been correct? XD

I already rebutted the vote analysis in yesterday's thread.

E: I think this speculation is likely to mean I don't get mauled tonight, but that means I'm only worried about the lynch. I haven't been seered or invited to an alliance, so I'm going to need you guys to keep an open mind when I respond to accusations.

I just reread a GM clarification from an earlier day. If the wolves do pick up a conversion power, it would be usable in addition to the maul.

It stills leaves the possibility that they voluntarily gave up a maul, but I think it's most likely that someone blocked their maul last night.

The world was spinning as Red once more found her way tot he table. Steak. Classy. She dove into the large slab of beef like she hadn't eaten in two days. Which was pretty much true since Gin is not a proper food group. In her delirium she wondered how Hellheart was not classified as an unknown? Had something changes since yesterday that she was not aware of? In truth she really wasnt aware of much yesterday, but that's beside the point. She had been leaning towards Hellheart or the monkey. Monkeys are cute, at least cuter than most of the old men at this convention. So what changed, besides ICB voting for him, which doesn't make it less wolf like on a runaway train.

I received one power, which was the ability to select a player and, if they voted with me at EOD, the total votes would have one more added on. It fizzled because my target player changed their vote.

Quiet day today. I can only assume that people are taking a bit of a break after all of the excitement of the last few days or all the conversation has moved to PMs. I really hope it's not the latter; stripping the day thread of conversation while incurring whatever potential corruption a PM power could have is a bad idea.

So, where should my vote go today?

Random thoughts
If Meta4 is a wolf, he's been trying to build an awful lot of cover by voting for ICB on half of the days so far. That doesn't clear him, but it at least gives me a second's pause.

I know nothing about Discworld (something that won't change before the end of this game), but is there any kind of trickster character that would make sense for San as a non-elemental?

One reason I can't get Stigmata out of my mind is that clarity on his role could bring some new information to Day 1. This is an awful reason to want someone dead, which is why I haven't used it to justify a vote.

I would not be opposed to a Clearasday lynch today. I feel a little scummy suggesting it when it looks like there's just an unexpected amount of conflict between his free time and this game, but his low participation and missing votes mean he will be harder to pin as a wolf in the long game.

I still favor going word-free, but there needs to be a critical mass of people supporting this idea before I'm going to implement it for myself. It is an idea that takes some of the variance out of the game, which will likely negatively impact the overall enjoyment.

I've yet to receive a GA power or (to my knowledge) be targeted by one. The only power I have received may have been earth influenced (the elemental hints were vague), but it was self defensive semi-lynch protection.

Did I miss any sort of official confirmation of the number of wolves? I'd expect a game this size to have 6-8, but most of what I've seen regarding a number seems to be based on symmetrical distribution of power theories.
