Day 8: Revenge of the Kitchens

Postby DastardlyOldMan » 15 Aug 2013, 20:34:03

Ridcully nodded to himself. The colored charts were in full effect. True, the food quality had gone down somewhat - the Bursar seemed content chewing on a sausage-in-a-bun - but things seemed to be working smoothly. They had already outed two of these infiltrators, and he was certain the rest would be dealt with. In the meantime, the University needed a bit of a relief from all the tenure floating around.

The Archchancellor quickly doled out the votes for the day and spoke the result: "San"

The wizards, in a bit of a mood after keeping to a mainly liquid diet for the day, focused their energies on the hapless target. As San tried in vain to shield himself, his skin turned blue, bluer, and finally a bright white as the wizards drained the heat from around him. Tiny icicles formed from the air and drained the last vestiges of life from his body like tiny lawyers.

Stibbons walked up, and rifled through San's pockets, clumsily breaking off a frozen finger in the process. He finally extracted a tiny block of cheese.

"Bleu" he said, as the cube shattered and dispersed in tiny motes.

--
The wizards were sleeping better at night, having full confidence in their abilities to find these interlopers and get back to regularly scheduled meals made of, well, food. As they assembled in the morning, rested - if not refreshed - the Lecturer in Recent Runes came in, his face pale.

"Omega, crushed beneath a fallen block of stone - in the privy of all places! Is nothing sacred?"

He held out a small diamond, which lifted up in the presence of the assembly, and slowly - ever so slowly - faded, until nothing was left but a brief memory.

"Spirit"
--
San - Wizard (Cheese: Bleu) - lynched
Omega - Wizard (Air: Spirit) - mauled

You're...ah...a day behind here. Is this Deja Vu?

Also, GD. I bet you that Meta4's a wolf. At least I'll set an awfully low bar for myself in future games.

Can someone just vig CAD already? Whether human or wolf, there's no way anyone could ever know.

And retracted was AugonVonSauron, what's with the posting but no voting yesterday?

It's sort of hard when Meta4 has actually voted for a wolf 3 times.New rule of thumb. Do opposite of what Hellheart says.

Wasabi because he doesn't feel right. He has pulled this off before where with low participation he gets off as a wolf. But well with useless votes and all, it's too easy to hide.

Also his death can give more information than others.

Also, Clear has missed 4 days already. Other players have been WoGed for less. I think the only reason this hasn't happened is because Clear might be a wolf himself and taking him out would be a blow to the wolves. At this moment humans don't suffer much even if he's human because with 2 dead wolves and 2 missed mauls, we're in a good shape still I would say. Also I saw this happening in a game where non participation of a player affected a faction and was kept due to balance, and it affected the game to a degree. I don't think it's appropiate to keep such an absence but oh well.

Ooc: RL is kicking my butt these last two weeks, and it's only getting worse from here. Sorry for the randomness and missed votes and messing up proper analysis.

IC: Red hung her head low in shame. A bandwagon to lynch San and she wasn't on it. One of life's missed opportunities. As for the crumbling banquet at hand she saw no reason to not follow up on what she had intended to vote yesterday, but was too busy slumming it up in the gutter to get around to. Hell heart or the monkey? She liked Hellheart, too much information for one so new. But what did she know, she'd been barely conscious, and not once sober this whole conference.

To clarify he didn't vote for "a" wolf he voted for the same wolf 3 times, ICB. All three times ICB was not in danger when Meta4 voted. On the last day he voted to bring ICB and Ravebomb to a tie but ICB had not yet switched his vote to Ravebomb, which was almost certainly going to happen.

Not sure how San ended up getting lynched. I'll have to read what happened late last night. In the meantime, Retracted - was Meta4

There are 19 of us left (once DOM updates the player list). Assuming a worst case of 8 starting wolves, the wolves require four days to win barring vig kills.

Well, the real worst case involves conversions, but I'm going to cover my ears and go "LA LA LA LA LA" at that because that screws us in a number of ways.

I suspect posting may be slow today and the weekend; we new information we have today doesn't do much to invalidate what was said yesterday or bring fascinating new insight into the game. It's possible there was some power usage that did that, but there's no guarantee that will ever make it to the main thread.

I ask no one vote for CAD until we get some guidance from DOM regarding the wrath of god.

Ozymandias deduced Hellheart's humanity due to some knowledge that must not have been posted in any of the day threads.

Hellheart, am I correct that you have not posted any of your night targets? Note, I am not asking you to post them now. My only concern is whether you posted them in the past.

Ozymandias is not an omnipotent deity and we can't make the mistake of using his list as gospel. I think questioning Hellheart's humanity is perfectly fair; I don't recall seeing anything in the publicly available information that would remotely clear him.

The flies were starting to become a problem. At first, Stibbons assumed it was the new cooking method, and the insects were seen by many as improving the flavor and general sanitation. But they certainly seemed to collect around the Head Bledlow, and the man hadn't taken a bite. In fact, come to think of it, he hadn't moved in several days.

Stibbons walked up to McAbre and gently prodded him with a finger. The stout traditionalist, the Keeper of the Keys, slowly toppled over. Apparently, he'd been dead for days.

Clearasday - WOG'd - McAbre - non-elemental wolf.

(I'm deferring CAD's full description for now, until I've had some time to try to balance things out. He did not have any role-specific powers that were used in-game.)

That first part goes without saying. That's why I posted his list again and included all of the reasons he supplied. I even suggested that Anvilfang may be a wolf on that list. The reasoning Ozy provided was not that compelling.

Also the reason I am trying to find out if Hellheart provided any public information is because I am trying to reconstruct Ozy's deduction MYSELF. In the right circumstance I may be able to simultaneously confirm Hellheart as human and confirm that someone else is a wolf. I would hate to end up in the Dead thread only to find out that if I had reread someone's post it all would have clicked into place.

Added: The WOG just took effect as I was typing this. It seems to verify my theory that there were 6 Non-elementals and that one was a wolf. Which means we likely have 3 wolves remaining and the remaining non-elementals are just short of confirmed human.

While I understand the logic that led to your theory, 6 wolves seems like an awfully small amount for a 31 player game.

Wasabi - 2 - Simple_Simon, rekard
Hellheard - 2 - Augenvonsauron, Meta4
Meta4 - 2 - FurinMirado, RaveBomb
Mister E. Meat - 1 - dferrantino
Augenvonsauron - 1 - Mister E. Meat

I thought I recalled reading about a smaller wolf count for this game.

Furin. He said he gave you powers on day 0-2 and he's claiming he has a cheese word. Of course wolves have cover words so it's not yet much of a guarantee.

DOM mentioned there could be fewer wolves due to not having permanent seers or GAs but who knows.

Red could have sworn on the convention rules and programming guide that less wolves were invited due to strangeness in power plays. A symmetry to the power groupings seemed likely. But things never are quite what is planned and there's still that whole conversion/corrupter thing to deal with. If two mauls were missed that seems like two conversion attempts, although there is probably some mechanic involving the power groupings as well. Or the whole set up might be less complicated than Red was imagining.

Gotcha. I see the line I missed now; taking that into account, 6 seems more reasonable.

As to the conversion, missed mauls shouldn't be an indication that the conversion attempt was attempted or even earned.

The rules say that the conversion is a power that can take place the same night as a maul, so I don't think the missed mauls were conversion attempts. If anything, it's probably a sign of failed mauls due to GA protection.

So after taking all this into account and updating my person suspicious, it looks like we've been really bad about placing wolves in threatened vote positions. Go us!

On the plus side my suspect list is getting pretty well defined.

I'd like to call for a review of why MEM is on the confirmed list. As far as anyone knew on day 4, Zark was going to die. Therefore, Ozy's reasoning is completely wrong there.

Ozy told me that he had boosted my vote. At the time I voted for Mortus, it put him into a tie with 7z7. This understanding was confirmed by Ozy. So, yeah it's not as strong as if I had put him into the lead I guess, but come on...

Wow. I don't know why I'm suddenly being "outed" as a wolf. I don't really know how to convince people since it's hard to prove a negative but I will say that yesterday Omega and I had several PMs and at no point did I get anything than he completely trusted me while we tried to build up the HA.

Anyhow, I will say that you can trust Anzig, Furin and necklessone as they are people in the HA. The only thing I can think is that there really is some sort of power mirror as per simple_simon and whoever has it pointed it at me.

Again, I don't really know what to say as for certain Anzig is 100% cleared based on PM conversations I had with Ozy and Omega.

It sounds like Omega laid a trap for Mister E. Meat wherein if he ended up mauled it meant that MEM betrayed him.

HOWEVER, it is known that PMs can backfire and be sent to multiple people. If Omega sent a PM to MEM it's possible it was also read by an unknown third party. This third party turned out to be a wolf who shared the information with his comrades and had Omega mauled.

Anzig we need more information. All we have right now is:

?????? + Omega Gets Mauled = MEM is a Wolf

So what is the missing variable? Without knowing his method we can't assume it is infallible.
