Change your Language setting to "British English" and check. SE Gamer Dark has an issue with the American English.

Probably the wrong place to request it:

Can we get a big link post at the top of the forum that links back to the old boards?

I've got the old ones bookmarked on my home computer but it seems like I'm spendng more time on phone, etc and I can't easily go back to them. Plus we have a bunch of new players.
Charming, to the last.

Any way I can change the front page so it puts the more recent games on top instead of on bottom?

Not that I'm aware of.

If that's the preferred order, we can swap it though.

In order to get the forum to display Eastern Time, I need to set my time zone to Central Time.

This should probably be fixed.

That's probably due to the Daylight Saving Time setting. Did you check whether you have that flag set properly?

Ack, had no idea that it needed to be manually removed. Stupid stone-age technology.

What happens when my PM box gets to 500/500? Does it prevent me from getting more messages? I just noticed I'm getting close to that limit, and I haven't even GM'd a game.

Is moving those messages to a new folder good enough, or is 500 the limit per account? I generally don't like deleting things but I guess I could if it was that or no new messages.

It looks like the default is that you can't get new messages, but they may be held if you realize this and start to delete or move messages. You can also pick other options like "send overflow messages to this folder" or "delete oldest messages" when you hit 500.

The limit of 500 messages seems to be per-folder, so there is a workaround, but bulk-moving messages out of your inbox seems to not be a thing that's provided.

Generally, looks like a pain in the butt, and I don't see the purpose for the artificial 500 limit.

That's kind of a silly question. At what point do you delete the old TWG games? As long as that's "never," I don't see any reason for PMs to get deleted.

Would it be possible to have the archived games and the day forum of the current game be set to public by default? I ask because for some unknown reason I can get to the forum from work and can view and read stuff, but if I try and login then I get blocked. Figure out the logic in that. So that would at least allow me to read the forum during the day (new work location has near zero cell phone reception) at least until they discover their backwards blocking issue.

Also would be good for any guests stopping by so that they can see the old games as well as any current ones we have going on.

I wonder about that, though. Wasn't all of that hidden from non-logged-in people on purpose? I know it's meant to be hidden from spiders, though robots.txt is probably enough for that.

Bots have their own group (called Bots) and they are set to have No Access anywhere.

Non-logged in people are "Guests" and have Read Only access.

I'm not sure if all the spiders have Bot accounts setup or not...

We really should standardize that. I have a terrible habit of keeping 'guest' on lockdown, and they don't see anything in the active game. And I've only cared about giving registered users the view access to a completed game. That's a total oversight, and if you can't see a completed game as a guest, I probably did the cleanup on it. I know some GMs/Admins are thoughtful of guests.

So if that's happened to you, it's probably my fault and I'm sorry.

Glancing over at the Mafia Championships makes me wonder:
Have we looked into having an automated thread-bot for doing, say, voting totals and thread closures? That seems really neat. They're vBulletin rather than phpbb so we couldn't just borrow theirs, but I wonder if there's something providing similar capabilities for phpbb?
(If nobody's looked into it already, I may spend some time searching for it later this week. I *really* like the idea, heh.)

Implementing something like that would sadly end my dreams/plans of quietly subverting the vote tallies, but that's a sacrifice I think I'm willing to make.

Actually those are things I considered doing as hobby projects, but you know how hobby projects go. I was never able to even decide on a design for how I wanted the vote tally bot to act, given our free form voting. It looked like something the GM would have to put effort into, which wouldn't necessarily be an improvement.

Just curious, I've not really messed with the polls but is there any way to set (or mod) them to show who voted for what and allow vote changes? Seems that would be a convienent option for daily vote tracking and keep updated info at top of thread always.

You may not be able to see the posting dialog box without creating an account, & even then, some functions only turn on in game (the pub forum wasn't fully functional)

The [Vote]Playername[/Vote] functionality is elegant. Rather than bold/color tags around a Cleartext typed name, All users in the player group are in a drop down list similar to our font size dialog. Choosing a player from the list places them in standardized tags & ensures votes are for the exact player name.

Worth looking into... The top post of the game has some screenshots in spoilers.. It's not complete but I can help flesh it out post game. I can't help but think the "bot" functionality and player-request driven vote rollup is largely dependent upon the regimented player names and standard vote labeling. The bot really just needs to do a grep for the vote/unvote tag. The rest is regular expressions.

Less in a bit,

Based on what I've seen over at MafiaUniverse, you could probably have both in that it would be an official vote with the flavor later

Or probably vice versa... But yes, we would give up a bit on that.

Maybe make the "official" vote text hidden? Or have a different tag that does that?

That way you can vote but still have it look like we're used to, at least until someone hits the "quote" button. Automated parsers will consume the raw content of the post and ignore the formatting, so it would still potentially work for automated tallies.

(Heading down this particular road we'd have to make it against the rules to hidden-vote contrary to what you're puiblicly saying, of course.)

Well, with a current vote tally after every vote, hidden votes would be catchable. Still annoying, but not that bad.

And the quote logic wouldn't need to be modified to avoid quoting votes, I think. Instead, the parser at the time of posting could strip that from the stored post while it's performing its tally. I think we're approaching something workable, which is pretty cool.

The whole multiple PJ thing originated in the Asgard game when I lifted the player list from the signup thread & PJ posted twice & was counted twice:
http://forum.thewolfgame.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=863&p=35252#p35198
That was Oct 2014, & it rocks my world to no end that it's become a persistent inside joke...

It's an adaptation, but I think one worth making, especially as it clears up the redaction problem. I have to say I like the implementation at MU... We could keep the colored vote / flavortext (where you can have the PJ you want, and the automation ensures you get the one you deserve). Same could apply to the Zarks. Quino in particular seems to be royally pissing Mamma Z off these days.

I don't know phpbb, but I'm pretty good at scripting. If you can point me towards where you download the mods from and maybe offer council along the way, I'd be happy to give this a shot.

Ignoring the far-off dreams of automated bots and hiding the tags, adding some custom BBCode for a [vote] function should be straightforward and make life easier for GMs. It'd be so much easier to just ctrl-F for "##VOTE" than to eyeball the whole thread for bold & color. If we're not automating it, we wouldn't even have to worry about the 1% of the time somebody intentionally changes a name to be snarky.

Hah, fair enough. I mean, even as a wolf I can't afford to publicly disagree with that.

That is an easy to implement solution in the meantime while we figure this out. Good idea, dferr.

Gentlemen,

#Vote for: I can get behind that
(not a vote)

And it's still possible to abuse the system... I like it.

Which of rainbow dash's hair colors is this? Tertiary?

Second question - Does this break anyone's chrome extensions or vote counters? I want to say somebody was adamant about the bold tag because they had a browser filter that converted everything to monochrome cleartext & that's how they kept track.

It also means they missed out on a lot of my RP, so, you know... screw 'em.

Their loss, Zark.

Honestly, I think the preferred voting should be

Code: Select all

[vote][b]Player[/b][/vote]

Which will give this:
#Vote for: Player

That way, the wrapped bold tags should still be picked up and it will nicely bold the players name. I haven't gotten the BB tag to automatically do that yet, and maybe I shouldn't it someone's auto vote counter relies on it.

Can we do it in a single line? Takes up way too much space for something that'll be all over the place.

It does not appear to want to put that on the same line, even after removing the <br> tag... :|

Would it be possible to change the text color? The red on blue is just a horrible combination and really messes with my eyes.
