amirite?!

Feel free to take a stand and publicly out your team affiliation, just so we know where to place hatred in the future.

I didn't intend to start playing, but it turns out going for many walks with the lady who's playing is a bit tedious if you're not also. Lots of stopping and starting and going off on side trips. So I ended up starting a day or so later, and I mostly just play along a few levels back. Of course I just joined her team, Blue / Mystic. It's a pretty decent mix of teams in our local area, but I think Yellow / Instinct is trailing a bit.

The most amusing part of the game is when something special spawns on the "nearby" list in the middle of the night. Quick, get shoes (and pants!) and go see if we can find it. Last night at 2:30 am I was scrambling to catch a Vileplume and a Ekans. It's pretty silly.

Mystic here. I reinstalled, but I'm still kind of aimless with what I'm doing with it. It'd be a dog walk companion if we hadn't moved up to 3 dogs who now require 100% of my focus to keep alive when on a leash. And my wife has put it into her "stupid fad" mental index, so I'm not getting much support in taking up a new hobby.

It's insane how social that game can be even without any social functions built in. It's currently an almost completely solo game, but I've stopped and chatted with dozens of new people over the last week. It's a safe guess that anyone walking with a cell phone in hand is playing. There's always something to start the conversation with, whether it's the uncommon pokemon over that way or the stupid gym fights locking up or the egg you just hatched or the lure we've happened across and what's spawned so far for them.

Andara's hooked on it. I'm less than impressed, but since she's dragging me around, I may as well capture the virtual critters, too.

Pokemon was after my time and I don't know what's going on. But I'm too afraid to ask at this point...

No, I don't think I'll ever get over Macho Grande.

Daughter is into it - wife got started because daughter doesn't have a smart phone (she's 8... and all her friends have one - I don't think she'll get over Macho Grande Either). Now the call for daughter needs a smartphone is coming from all corners. All because of godsdamned Pokemon Go. #TeamDoesntGiveADamnPersonally

I have a spare cell phone (company iPhone 5s they didn't want back) that is an AT&T unit - our home contract is Verizon. It's the 6's & later units you can port over.

Anyone have a Verizon iPhone 5/5c/5s they'd be willing to trade for a iPhone 5s 16gb? It would make a little girl very happy. Hell, I'd be happy as well.

Does the daughter have a phone already? I think you can pick up some version of a free iPhone when you add a line.

... why did I start playing this game.

Just hit level 5. Need to pick a team, but not sure which. Are there any actual differences between them?

Yes. Blue and Red are the slaves that keep Yellow's empire running.

No differences. You could make the choice based on your local area's gyms. I personally find it more profitable to be against the dominant color because it's easy to knock down gyms, but difficult for me to build up team gyms. Not sure if I'm doing it wrong or what. Seems like red's taking over more and more around here. Blue knocks them down and gets overrun shortly after, and Yellow's slowly disappearing altogether. But that's just my town.

I wonder if that mirrors current gang violence in North and West Philly... Or Camden?

Ryvvn made me join with him last Friday. He posed it as something we could do together that was "kind of like real life geocaching, but I won't be sad if you play without me."
Then I got obsessed and far surpassed him in level, skill, and general useless Pokemon knowledge. Joined Instinct because it matches our avatars' outfits.

Also, our town has a Pokemon Facebook group, and we started talking about ways to help the homeless people that live in the town square. People are there 24/7 for the Pokestops and gym- figured since we're all going there every day anyway, we could make something good happen for those less fortunate.
I put this donation cooler with drinks and snacks in the square a couple days ago, and it's spread like wildfire. The local news even covered it. It's awesome to see the positive things that are happening because of this freaking game.

I never played Pokemon, never watched the shows, etc. if you don't have a nostalgic tie to the game, is Pokemon Go any good?

It's long on the "feed your collection addiction" part of the game, very short on the rest of the gameplay. It's a good time-killer, and as Catmother points out, there's some good things coming out of it. But, as you can see from the muggings and other criminal behavior, there's some bad that comes, too.

It's this month's fad. It'll fade in a month or two. I hope more people act like Catmother and Ryvvn, and help improve the area, rather than the opposite.

Catmother, Ryvvn: Good on you. Try to keep up the support after Pokemon Go-es away. ;)
