The GM Queue v3.0

Postby Ryvvn » 10 Dec 2016, 21:49:37

No rule/variant discussion in this thread; use this other thread for that.

If you wish to run a game, please post with a selection of an open time slot, and a game title/description if you have one. You will be added to the schedule, your title/description included as a spoiler below, and your post removed (to keep this thread tidy). Signup threads may, and probably should, be posted as the previous game is winding down. Current GMs should feel free to add the next GM to the group, as soon as the current game has concluded. If something comes up that prevents a GM from running their game as scheduled, the next slotted GM may feel free to start early, or anyone may feel free to run a single thread game to fill the gap.

Sign ups are now freely open!

[+] Original proposal still open to opinions
As we head into a new year, I've been thinking about how the current GM queue has (and has not) been working for us.

One of the biggest issues seems to be folks want to get on the queue but their game slot can come up somewhat randomly due to other factors and they might not always be ready; another is just having to constantly remind people, "Hey, you are up next, are you actually really really ready?"

Considering most games take less than a two week period from start to finish, and most of us would like to participate in at least two large-scale main games per month, I've been toying with the idea of a schedule instead of a literal queue.

Something like this:

Code: Select all

Month    Front      Back
Jan      -----      -----
Feb      -----      -----
Mar      -----      -----
Apr      -----      -----
May      -----      -----
Jun      -----      -----
Jul      -----      -----
Aug      -----      -----
Sep      -----      -----
Oct      -----      -----
Nov      -----      -----
Dec      -----      -----

Front means the first half of the month, back obviously the latter half. So, now instead of just asking to be placed in the queue, prospective GMs will request a specific time slot they feel confident they could run their game in. As an example, if the current queue were to run straight through, the new queue would look like so:

Code: Select all

Month    Front      Back
Jan      CAD        Jrs
Feb      Dferr      FCM
Mar      Zark       -----
Apr      -----      -----
May      -----      -----
Jun      -----      -----
Jul      -----      -----
Aug      -----      -----
Sep      -----      -----
Oct      -----      -----
Nov      -----      -----
Dec      -----      -----

Now, say I wanted to jump on, but I already knew the next open spot (the back half of March) would not work for me; well then I just signup for early April instead.

With this system, I would hope that people would feel more confident to run when their spot came up, and would not need the reminder, and would hopefully not need to bump (I understand life can unexpectedly pop up).

What are thoughts on possibly switching to this style of queue?

Hey folks. Is anyone interested in running anything? I'm happy to do another chapter in Newtown (probably the fight against vampiric influence this time... PM twdog and let him know.) but want to offer it up to anyone else who's interested.

I’m hoping to run at least one sometime this year... unfortunately, now is not that time.

Understood. Hope all is well up north.

Happy to run a vanilla vampiric conversion game... Maybe after next week?

I'm about to wander stateside again for a month or two, and would have tons of time to run a game or two as well - put me down after Omega's game. Something non-vanilla for me, probably (maybe return to the elemental concept, or maybe just a vanilla-ish PM game).

Plus, if Omega does run a conversion game, I'll be dead nice and early . . . :)

Now that's some great news.

The elements. Not the early death.

Your elemental game was, if I recall, the one where I had a PM power but expected there was someone listening. What I was counting on was an imperfect listener, so I sent a flood of useless PMs. Just wikipedia articles about nothing. I think you were quite frustrated with me in the dead thread. One of my favorite TWG memories!

Someone give me GM access? I'm flying today, but will be ready to set up over the weekend.
