Your RP has been on point. I've heard it all in Spader's voice. It has really been cracking me up.

Thanks, that means a lot! I'm loving actually writing the little story bits, so I may keep Reddington as a recurring role if it's not too aggravating to everyone.

He's just asking for dferrantino to let Twdog do unspeakable things to him (in the server room, of course.)

Today's fun in corporate America: after HR lowered the rating on my year end review (because I got promoted, I am apparently only capable of meeting expectations), they then made my boss rewrite it to include less praise.

I mean, I get it. I got a raise last year, then a promotion. Capping my review keeps my salary growth more in line with what they want. But rewriting the review just seems petty.

You should file a complaint about that with the, uh, HR... depart... Right.

As someone at my old employer had to be reminded near-constantly: Unless you are HR's boss, HR is not your friend and will never be your friend. No matter how friendly they may act. :x

Oh, I have Glen run that for me. Forcing people to wait at the DMV before filing any sort of complaint seems to cut down on the number of filed complaints an enormous amount.

Major upgrade this weekend, & a key contributor's Grandpa died Monday.

He's a key player, but personality wise, he doesn't document or knowledge transfer and saves everything to the last minute.

This is going to be a fun weekend

It's a legal protection thing. If your review is glowing, but you only got a "Meets Expectations" and someone else has a higher rating but less glow-y review, then theoretically, you could litigate. HR is basically in the business of making sure employees can't litigate. I'm in management now, and it's crazy-stupid the wording choices you have to make on those reviews: If you're giving a meets-expectations, you can't use "he did an excellent job" - because "excellent" implies more than meets-expectations. I'm tempted to get with one of my more cynical employees (who would appreciate the humor) and write up a "he did an amazingly neutral job" review.

Another Engineer turned manager here with the same story. You have to provide HR with a rating for all staff very early in the process. Although there is a published schedule, you need to give this so early, it is frequently prior to the employee submitting their self eval.

It's understood if they are "meets expectations" your review will be brief and supportive of that message. Its further understood that your entire team cannot be highly effective. That's a sign the team is working well, & that expectations should be raised to meet their level of performance.

If you chain highly effective 2 years running, you have to defend like it's a doctoral thesis. It implies you're not adjusting the job to their capabilities. Other managers have asks facing the same budget pool for that silo. In short, if they knock every ball out of the park, you need to work on your curveball and change ups.

I credit HR with both grey hairs and missing hairs, far more than any of the technical emergencies (and there have been some doozies).

In the short time I have been DOM's manager he has completed all required tasks and projects on time and as requested. Villagers have known DOM for a long time and know his capabilities and what areas of strength he brings to the table for them.

DOM is frequently targeted by the seer, and may need to manage his message if he is called "furry" by a coworker. In 2015 DOM had multiple changes in the village pub he had to take on. There were organizational changes, management changes, and operational restructuring as well. All of these challenges DOM took in stride without any issue. As the reporting structure is changing, I continue to look for DOM to have a strong 2016 as Media Engineering continues to shift under Dferrantino, and we build the human army further.

These policies in particular have a special place in hell, and are put in place to deliberately sabotage the salaries of expert technical employees.

That, in a nutshell, is why I went to the dark side. There is absolutely a ceiling. Crossing over has it's own perils.

My personal demon is needing to still be the support as well as managing major projects. You never get to take the old hat completely off unless you change to a different facility, as people will always remember their go-to guy.

Excepting a few sociopaths, I don't think anyone enjoys this process. My moral compass is to be the boss I would like to work for, & hold the line between my staff and such policies (and absolutely to go to bat for the limited bonus funds in any org). As stated earlier, HR is not your friend, & this is an HR process.

I'm doing the self review thing at the moment. Also have to talk to how I fit the "core values" in the companies mission statement.

Optimism - In the wake of soul crushing boredom and probable job loss (which I'm helping to facilitate) , I'm still here

That optimistic enough for you HR?

Can we try again with "Agility"?
Agility - RaveBomb has spent countless hours in his cubicle working on touching his toes. While we believe that he is currently capable of this feat, his weight issues (brought on by stress eating.. see Optimism) preclude him from doing so.

i admit, this is my escape from a too hectic (and far too serious) work day. That said, I think there would be merit (and merit increases) in running an hr review process wolf game.

The wolves would be corporate HR and their sycophants: those who don't actually work for the greater good, but rise via their relationship with senior management.

With the support of our CEO Peter Principle, they process the maul every night... After all, they made promises they can't keep, but somehow there results are your fault so you get killed instead. Their vigilante would be the HR hatchet man.

The nightly lynch, a reduction in operational force as everyone tries to eliminate the sycophants before they reach parity with actual knowledge workers take the company down with their own incompetence.

We'll need a mission statement, of course... And angel funding. You can't do much without a bankroll in TWG incorporated.

The dead thread would be LinkedIn.

The RP banter will be excruciating. Extra votes should be awarded for extraneous use of synergizing the paradigms. The more jargon laced the post, the more votes the person has to cast. After all, it isn't about knowing what you are talking about, as long as you sound like you know what you are talking about.

Mandatory forum attendance will be required throughout the work day, because if we don't have 6+ hrs of meetings in a day, we aren't really a company.

And just remember, being absolutely positive that everything around you is going to hell in a handbasket, counts as optimism.

Obviously anyone who misses work would go on a performance improvement plan. It was in the memo. You did get the memo, right?

Job stuff. I'm a contractor so it always depends on the client and stuff.
Can be good, but it's a pain to move.

I've only been to Pittsburgh once in the last few years, but, I went to a really good restaurant downtown, I'll see if I can track down the name for you.

Best of luck with the move, rekard!

I just relocated myself (not far, only about an hour's distance) from Stroudsburg to Scranton (PA) but mine was for relationship not business reasons so I'm quite happy for it! I've moved around a lot over the past five years though and so that's helped me get my personal effects almost down to the bare essentials; of course, moving in with a girlfriend who likes to encourage my Amazon window shopping into actual purchases has caused me to start accumulating again.

So ... I wasn't able to get to work on time today, but I really don't think it's my fault given that I discovered my car was stolen when I walked out my front door. On a related note, if your dog starts flipping out and barking her head off in the middle of the night, you should probably check out what's going on instead of telling her to shut up and tossing a shoe at her.

So I got my car back! It was found abandoned at scene of a home break in. Somehow I can't shake the feeling that one of you all is behind this, trying to get revenge for my over complicated map games.

Late 90s accord, but not like there's anything weird about it ... well, you know, except the pony glued to the dash. Don't judge me!

Glad for the happy ending. Hopefully no damage to the car?

Unicorn Twilight. None of that rage inducing twilicorn crap for me!

The ignition is broken, but it shouldn't be too much work to get it fixed, and the insurance will cover it anyway. Just super annoying, much like missing a vote snipe by literally 2 seconds.

Also, I feel somewhat insulted the car was abandoned. Like, what, isn't my car worth stealing? twdog's car: so crappy even car thieves don't want it.

I feel like a bumper stick to this effect is in order.
