Sounds like my week, except I have a four-hour maintenance window that I have work through tomorrow as well. Shutting down our entire production datacenter in order to apply core switch firmware updates. Fucking Cisco.
Fortunately we have a liquor cabinet in the office. Tequila, anyone?

So say we all. It has been a week. New director gave more authority to a peer of mine, which turned into a wholesale land grab on his part.
For my self deprecating comments about moving into a managerial role over the last few years, it does come with a balancing act and a price. We are all taking the position of "let's give him runway and see what he does with it"...
He's chewing through his karma at prestigious speed, and may well end up lower on the totem pole than he started without a reasonable course correction.

Ok so now the fan's been wiped and the walls are so clean you could eat from them (don't, there was shit and now chlorine in them). Why? because the Celestial Council decided that I and only I can help them with their conundrum so I'm stuck with making complimentary documentation for this project! Woo!

Who decided this week was "overwhelm Okaros with all the games" week? 'cause the timing is both great and suck at the same time:
Horizon: Zero Dawn? Tomorrow
Torment: Tides of Numenera? Tomorrow
Next Path of Exile league? Friday.
All of these are capable of consuming a week or more of play-time by themselves.
Week-long Business trip to Manchester? Sunday.

I feel this - my implementation team has been very vocal on the difficulty in staffing last minute asks. So a few people have taken to playing hot potato with those very things.
Client move to a new workspace is bumped by a week, & I get to submit the emergency change order covering the ass of the guy who dropped the ball.

Bit of a cultural problem - the guy in question is the chosen one of our senior VP and has an ego the size of a small moon or space station. Politically, I'll end up owning the fallout for this one, despite spooling up to rescue him, & he will look like a hero for doing 1/5th of what he was signed on to do.
Oh yeah, and get off my lawn.

Manchester, England or Manchester, New Hampshire?
Separately, I'm taking a week off next month. My "spring break" happens to overlap with Mass Effect Andromeda's release. Pure coincidence.

England, for my first-ever trip abroad. My stay will consist of exactly the Manchester airport. Why? Our Manchester office is located in the airport. So's the hotel that the SVP hosting this little shindig booked.
My boss and I are going, and we don't even get a rental car between the two of us. Endless airport meals, yayyyyy....

At least it's entirely on the company dime.

Maybe if you ask CAD reallllllly nicely he can have some fine British cuisine delivered. And by that I mean, Indian food.

Not a bad idea, but I think all my meals (and almost all of my free time) are accounted for/planned for three days I'm actually ambulatory in Warehouse City. 3 days of work book-ended by a day of travel each way. Who the hell put the U.K. so damn far away?
I'd totally be game for meeting up with CAD if I could find some free time, though.

Hey now, we're not at fault here. Your daughters clearly need to step up their game.

Alternatively, you could RP as the Mane Six. They'd work well for your style.

Re: F5 - The Refresh Strikes Back
Had an absolute blast at the Werewolf panel at PAX East, thanks Ryvvn for hosting yet again. Highlights included:
- Ryvvn leaving index cards on everyone's chairs with the Dan (i.e. me) one first. Which led to...
- Everyone introducing themselves as Dan.
- Dan being chosen as the first wolf. I refuse to believe this was actually random.
- Everyone deciding to vote for Dan in the first round.
- Dan having to defend himself via pillow fight & crowd participation, revealing him as a fan favorite and likely invincible until that rule was removed.
- Dan being seered as a wolf immediately after said revelation.
- Dan also having a crowd-participation ability granting him an extra life.
- Spontaneous dance parties
- A player with a "kill cultists" ability being not only a wolf, but a cultist himself, complete with the ability to convert people to the cult.
- And much, much more.

So... I taught fencing (and fenced competitively) back in college. I've always watched the swordmasters with interest and swung the hammer against the hot steel on more than one occasion.
The whole series is pretty good and I've spent too many hours watching a number of the episodes.

Wow. As reasons to be away go, that's solid. Any continuing drama, or was this a "well after x years, it's harder to excuse the secret than it is to keep it going"?
None of my business, but honest and supportive thoughts coming your way.
Best,

Re: F5 - The Refresh Strikes Back
I probably shouldn't have said anything, but I'm just still in shock over the whole thing. The short version that I'll post here is that mom's teenage years were a giant trainwreck. Like, imagine a train crashes. Then another train crashes into that one. Then a 3rd train. Then a plane falls out of the sky onto what is already a clusterfuck of a pileup. She thought should could leave it all behind, move to another part of the country, do whatever it took to get a degree and a job, and never tell anyone about anything.
But the whole veil sort of came crashing down when when my brother turned up looking for his birth mother last week. But I don't blame her, really. I was raised in a safe and stable enviroment, and while we were never rich, we weren't poor, and we never had to worry about having enough money for food, clothing, or housing. None of that was true when my brother was born.
Thanks for thinking of me!

Also, dfer got about 3 different massages from another player because his role was to vote for the lynch via back massage.
The panel was very entertaining.
