Hey, while we're poking at forum settings... Could we bump the filesize limit of avatars up to around, say, 400kb? The dimensions are fine as they are, I've just been limited occasionally by the filesize.

As long as you ban Canadian english as well, I'm cool with it.

And if you need dark and brooding, just come hang with me for a while. Though I feel as though medieval doesn't quite fit me. I'm a modern mexicali food.

This ICB theme sounds excellent, sign me up.

Double check your setting in the UCP. I'm a bad test case because I can always see myself regardless of that setting.

Yeah, I tried toggling it off and back on again, and also logging off and back on. Still seeing myself. Haven't seen anyone else yet, but I've been the only one on when I've looked so far.

Let's keep our eye on this as we approach the next game.

For what its worth, you're showing up in italics for me, which indicates a hidden user.

And in case anyone reading that hasn't been a GM before, anyone in the human group inherits a permission blocking them from seeing hidden users which overrides the setting permitting us to see them, so no, Overlords can not meta-game in that way.

The list at the index page shows a hidden user count of 1, so I guess it's just inside forums that I'm seeing myself listed? New change or just something I'm finally noticing now? Either way I think it's probably working okay and I'm just overly paranoid. :)

3 users online, 2 hidden, 1 guest. Users online list includes only myself in italics. Looks like that's evidence in favor of the current working theory.

Not to look a gift-title in the mouth or anything, but... are the latest generation of them meant to be the eyesore abominations that are the custom_title: <blah> in our profiles, or are they meant to be more like custom ranks like they've been previously (i.e. Ryvvn/Aldax)?

I ask because with how they look it looks/feels like there's a broken plugin or something .

I'll keep you all updated on the timeline.

Wow, heathen. I thought you used subsilver, but I guess that might explain your backstabbing ways.

Omega, this style shows up when you filter for 3.2, though it only has 3.1 in writing there. Might work?

Ugh, the list of styles for phpbb 3.2 is almost non-existant, with a bunch of the authors of 3.1.x styles declaring that they're not going to update, including any semblance of a white-on-black theme except for ne-blackgreen (which I guess I'll have to live with? That green though, ugh).

Any thoughts on abandoning phpbb for something with a slightly less... zombified... development community, Omega? A different forum software might make it easier to do automated vote tallies and such as well.

Re: General Forum Bug Reporting/Problem Thread

A few thoughts:

1) We can always wait to upgrade to 3.2. The current 3.1.9 is working well enough. I will likely do a 3.1.10 update at the very least. Hopefully, in time, (3.2 has only been out for <2 months) additional dark styles will be added.)

2) This is TWG v3, running on phpBB, similar to v1. v2 was a Simple Machines Forum that was... awful. Migrating to something new is not something I'm keen to do, but, I live to do nothing if not serve the wolves of this community. Then the question becomes, where would we like to go? I've never asked for money for hosting this, but if we were to go to a vBulletin, that's going to require licensing fees, and that is probably beyond what my budget will absorb.

3) As far as automated voting, I spoke with Thingyman over at MU when Zark was busy shooting everyone. Apparently their auto-vote system is a home brew and the author wasn't willing to share. Now, I know a little about a lot of things, but that sort of technical capability is far beyond me.

Happy to keep this conversation going!

I believe there are a number of professionals in a variety of technical roles here. I don't believe it's beyond the capabilities of our collective skillsets. 8-)

Yes, but, while I can volunteer you all for many things... many things... php development is service beyond what even I can impress upon you!

Maybe get away from PHP entirely?

Discourse looks interesting (live demo site here)

I'm not a huge Ruby on Rails fan, but I'd gladly take it over PHP (and TWG is small enough that it's unlikely to hit the scalability issues that RoR seems to run into).
A drawback of Discourse is that there currently isn't a theme engine (it's on their to-do list for this year), so it's all CSS and HTML editing to fiddle with things if you want to go beyond the basic customization options.

For me, anything with a decent external API is probably fine, though a good internal/plugin API is certainly a plus.

What are we trying to fix, exactly? I'm all for upgrades and moves and stuff for the greater good, but I'd hate to add another TWG bookmark to the archives just because.

If it ain't broke, we aren't done developing :)

You kind of answered your own questions. ;)

I'm not suggesting Omega skip the 3.2 phpbb upgrade or anything, just trying to spark some discussion on whether sticking with phpbb is sane long-term. Development and community involvement in phpbb is steadily grinding towards a halt, so it might be beneficial to ask "What do we want out of the TWG forum?" in a more casual setting than "Omg we have to switch forum software right now".

Maybe it's worth starting a different thread for that discussion? Hrm.

And DOM that certainly is the short term and intermediate term plan. I think the question is long term what do we want to do?
