Town of Salem - werewolf speed round browser game

Postby Admetus » 14 Oct 2014, 18:40:08

Trump's YouTube channel had a sponsored video of him playing a Mafia game in development called Town of Salem. It's a game being actively developed, apparently it's pretty playable even though the Kickstarter fund drive is still going on for a couple more days. I guess the Kickstarter is mainly about making a Steam version and expanding it a bit.

Here's the YouTube vid if you want to check out how it plays. It seems to have special roles out the wazoo, but I suppose most of that is customizable when the game is created.

We should set up a flash game some time. It'd only take like 20 minutes to run through.

Is it really a good idea to play a quick game like this with somebody like Ravebomb?

I'm down to try this should it be coordinated. Also, as a reminder, games such as Werewolf (one night/standard) and Avalon/Resistance can be played within Tabletop Simulator on Steam! Totally worth the purchase, been playing tabletop games on weekly basis for months, until somewhat recently when circumstances had me leave my current gaming group; I'd definitely be interested in possibly setting up a weekly group to play those games and other tabletop fare on there if any of you Steam friends would be interested!

I do want to note that a lot of roles and role combinations in speed-Mafia encourage game-solving behavior involving whispers/claims which can remove the fun from the game. Pushing it towards Vanilla can help, but the limited time makes that a LOT harder for the humans.

It's a difficult balancing act.

This looks quite cool. Like Mafia with a nifty UI. I'll give it a go.

Having played One Night Ultimate Werewolf with Ryvvn, I've found it's remarkably difficult to get yourself lynched as the Tanner.

So, I've read through the updates on the Kickstarter and tried to find it on their forums, but couldn't find the answer: What are the Town Points used for?

Looks like vanity skins and "scrolls" that let you weight the chances in favor of being a chosen role when you start a game. Not sure if there are other things.

Found a page on the wiki about Town Points.

Seems like the scrolls aren't involved in that.

Who else has signed up, and under what usernames? Maybe we can get a private game going...

The game can be fun, but this time of night the trolls are out in full effect.

Okay, registered as Admetus.

Holy hell, that was tense. Was the godfather and my framer dropped out night one, and my mafioso was stabbed by the Serial Killer on night 3. I soloed it through Night 9 to pull off a mafia win.

I need a break now. My nerves are shot. :)

I feel like I should probably know what all the roles are before going into a game. I've skimmed some of the wiki but it's a lot to keep in mind all at once.

Added you PJ.

I just jumped in assuming it would be similar to mafia.

First game I'm a seer role, seer two mafia and claim. Then we lynch a human so they lynch me. The plus side is, now I know what the framer does.

Private games can't come soon enough. :)

(I wandered into a custom game last night, but left after the GM spent five minutes trying to make it a 13 mafia, 1 serial killer, and 1 sheriff game...)

You mean the "vanilla" game with no wolves at all?

That proposed game would end at the start of Day 3. Dystopia's ended when people realized what was happening and stopped playing in protest

that game was SO memorable, really. It ended on Day 8, but took nearly 8 weeks in actuality. And the vigilante (Nitestorm) committed suicide on day 1.

In the time it took to run Game 11, we ran games 12 through 15. :o :o
