Reminder Emails: We now have them. Opt-in. Details inside...

Postby Iron Clad Burrito » 01 Nov 2013, 12:33:08

We're looking into sending a forumwide reminder email for people to (a) remember that they signed up to play, and day 0 is coming up, and/or (b) remind you that there's a game coming up, wanna sign up?

It's just a thought. Looking for a way to continue encouraging people to participate, and also cut down on the recent run of "Oh crap, I signed up and completely spaced, here's my day 3 vote." Not that we're saying that's the worst thing you could ever do, and people understand when that happens, but at the same time, we figure you signed up with the intent to play. :)

By my admittedly quick calculations based on a statistically insignificant sample of recent games, I'd imagine that this would result in the board sending you one email every 2.5 to 3 weeks on average*.

Please vote, and discuss below. Thank you!

*plus whatever you're currently configured to receive

[e] Oh yeah, I forgot to mention (thanks, Omega)...

I don't need some computer telling me what I need to do yeah because I care about what I do.

((I kind of obsessively check this forum for updates multiple times a day. I don't really need a reminder e-mail even if the rest of the forum gets one. Worst case scenario, you can always message me on Steam.))

Same, but I do think it's a great idea for those who don't; hell, I'd take in game email alerts letting me know close to EoD with no vote or something happened and need to revote kinds stuff!

Incidentally, to make this clear in case ICB's post left it ambiguous, this would be opt-in. We would not, based simply on this poll, make this the default for everyone.

I'd be up for that, I've missed day 0 and day 1 stuff before. Also, I don't come by here very often unless I'm actively playing a game (or watching one)

Can you opt-in CAD and e-mail him that he should let us know when his game is going to start? :P

I would like this. I know that I'm almost always in on games and as such I do miss starts occasionally.

Cam_Chase - this is the thing where apparently GMs (other than me - oops!) send an email out about new games coming up and such.

Seems more common for the emails to be going to spam; I've had it happened to me a couple times despite marking it not as spam, and apparently so had FCM who just found the latest game email in her spam.

I guess make sure to add the wolfgame info@thewolfgame.net to your address book or something!

The more thorough solution is to skip the emails entirely and simply spam-refresh the forum every few minutes 24/7/365.
