Day 01 - And a Great Place to Hang Your Guilty, Too!

Postby sphenodont » 03 Feb 2014, 03:55:07

The villagers debated hotly into the night, taking time off only to watch the National Frungy League's championship game, but in the end, they decided against electing a Sheriff.

Would they regret this decision? Only time would tell... for now, they had to find the werewolves among them, and make them pay for their crime. (Even if everyone still hated Farmer Joe).

Due to the late start, we will extend the day to Tuesday night at 9:00 (unless everyone is okay with ending it today).

It's true this town has changed; the amount of control exhibited in this dystopian arena is astonishing at times:
Image

I remember when I attended Brickhouse University. I was fond of this local repertory theater in the nearby stripmall... You know the type, smooth counter tops at the anachronistic bar that only served soda. And the staff who popped their own popcorn in a machine that looked like it was made from a drive-up window and parts of a forklift. Only a handful of people for any given show, but stories of depth rarely draw a wide audience.

The autumn of my Junior year, I realized there was this spot out front where the wind would kick up the leaves in a slow spinning dervish. It was a trick of the light: heating the bricks in the alcove just enough that the air would move. Hot to cold, the leaves would chase each other, even on an otherwise calm day. Coming back over the years, I noted it happened in the summer and winter with less traditional props. Straw wrappers and ATM receipts vying for supremacy and relevancy long after their purpose came and went. It wasn't by design or intervention, but it stuck with me more than any of the films I saw there.

It occurred to me that many of our pursuits can be like that if we let them. Monday comes, you go to work, and the pieces spin onward. Tuesday is another day, but the dance goes on. Unless you act, unless you step forth and disrupt the rhythm, the social forces, the Brownian motion of our daily lives spin onward, moving us, yet not out of our typical rotation.

I wondered if cupid's arrow would change the patterns we saw yesterday. Cecil B DeMindstorm would have liked that.

You fools, you interfere with my eternal hunt for Ozymandias by not granting me my rightful place as Sheriff? You will all surely pay for this inaction. You can redeem yourself by voting for Nitestorm for Sheriff.

As an added benefit, I'm an expert at hunting those purely for malicious revenge, whether they be foolish humans who want to lynch me, or the wolves who want to eat me (Ozymandias in particular). My hunting instincts have zeroed in on Ozymandias a a terrifying threat who must be eliminated at all costs. A hunting we shall go! :flail:

Now excuse me as I continue on with my hunt.

First order of business. Everybody can vote for me for Sheriff since I'm the ONLY safe choice. Everybody else is going to try to use logic and reason

Now I can hear you shaking your heads, but let me say this. If I'm human, there is no problem. If I'm a WOLF, well look who you're talking to. Last time there was lovers in a wolf game, what did I do? I was a wolf that tried to KILL WOLVES. It's a win, win. Unless you're a wolf, then it's more of a losing proposition.

Now.. as for the rest, redacted (was LYNCH: 7-Zark-7) needs to go down for posting that terrifically pornographic picture.

Actually come to think of it.

redacted (was SHERIFF: 7-Zark-7) needs to be sheriff for posting that terrifically pornographic picture.

I vote for NO SHERRIF because I'm sort of an anarcho-capitalist and I don't need the man here telling me what I can and can't do.

For lynch, let's random up this bad boy and go with the possible alpha, Omega.

I think No Sheriff is still the best vote for now, because the best case scenario for us is to elect a confirmed Villager to be Sheriff, and we can't do that if we've already elected a Sheriff (since from that point on the Sheriff will choose his successor).

As for whether the Hunter should role claim today so that we can elect him Sheriff, I think there are two factors for the Hunter to consider:

(1) How often are you mauled? If the Hunter is the type of high-profile player who is mauled more often than not as a Villager (e.g., FurinMirado, me), then it probably makes sense to stay hidden.

(2) Will you be around most of the time at EOD? I think a huge part of the advantage of having a confirmed Villager Hunter is the threat of a double vote snipe, which can really screw with the Wolves. So if you won't be able to take advantage of that, then it might not be worth coming forward.

Anyway, there's a very good chance that you're going to have to come forward anyway-- either to avoid the lynch or to counter-claim a Wolf trying to pose as a Hunter to avoid the lynch.

So I think preemptively coming forward today so that we can elect you Sheriff is something you should seriously consider.

The start of Day 1 seems pretty early to be altering rules that have such a large impact on strategy.

If you don't want us to be able to vote "No Sheriff" because you think you made a mistake and it gives Villagers too big an advantage, than you should just remove it from the ballot entirely.

Traditionally, this town is not interested in safety. You only have to look at the lack of building codes - towers 20 bricks high and 4 bricks wide, cars with no brakes or tail-lights, and don't even get me started on the complete absence of locking doors or handrails on staircases.

RaveBomb then wrote:I simultaneously love and hate Zark for posting that terrifically pornographic picture.

So I didn't see a fruit rollup this morning, but here's my recollection from yesterday:

all my troubles seemed so far away wrote:Nomar Sharif -9- Admetus, FurinMirado, necklessone, Ozymandias, Smirker, Hellheart, stigmata, 7-zark-7, simple simon
Dferrantino -3- Dferrantino, Rictus, Ryvvn
Nitestorm -3- Nightstorm, Iron Clad Burrito, DastardlyOldMan
simple simon - 2 - visigoth, rekard
Rekard -1- Clearasday
Ravebomb -1- Blindsniper

Also, I'm not sure this counts, as he didn't retract his prior vote, but I was surprised when Ozy voted for our lovely and talented GM:

Subject: Day 0 - A Place To Hang Your Hat

Ozymandias wrote:the GM

Now personally, I think Sphenodont has too much power already. One look at Clearasday's avatar is all the proof you need of my reasoning. One day you're happily getting drunk with your chicken, the next, someone is carrying around your severed head and quoting Hamlet. It's only a matter of time before the grim reaper comes for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, but you're changing the subject.

What draws my eye is the difference between today's point spread and yesterday. It's almost as big a gulf as that between broncos and seahawks (more proof that air superiority decides modern battles). One one hand, it's possible that our best hope for lasting peace lies with the king of seagulls himself, Iron Clad Burrito.

On the other, whenever I have to pick a sheriff, I choose Nightstorm (for purely historical reasons, I assure you)

I would like to put my hat in the ring for the position of Sheriff.

Pros:
1. Strength
2. Speed
3. Shiny Teeth

Likes:
1. Anachronistic Villages
2. Children's building sets
3. Hitting evil in the eye

Dislikes:
1. Silence
2. Stepping on children's building blocks in the dark
3. Werewolves

Well, considering that there now need to be 17 (!) "No Sheriff" votes for those votes to count, keeping my vote on "No Sheriff" seems pretty pointless.

So I'll switch to Admetus for Sheriff.

Hmm, I'll get in my votes while I can. Both can be considered tentative ((until I have time after kids' music lesson)).

Sherriff : SmirkerRETRACTED(I'm not Hunter, but neither am I a wolf).

Lynch: stigmata (RNG doesn't like you; did you sleep with it's girlfriend again?)

Looks like this vote is going another day. Also I see the restriction against voting for yourself for sheriff was lifted. Here's where the totals are so far.

Lynch

Stigmata - 2 - Hellheart, Smirker
Mister E. Meat - 2 - DastardlyOldMan, Omega
Ozymandias - Nitestorm
7-zark-7 - RaveBomb
Admetus - Rekard
Omega - Mister E. Meat
Clearasday - 7-zark-7

Sheriff

Nitestorm - 2 - Nitestorm, 7-zark-7
Clearasday - 2 - DastardlyOldMan, Omega
Admetus - 2 - Hellheart, Ozymandias
7-zark-7 - RaveBomb
Visigoth - Rekard
No Sheriff - Mister E. Meat
FurinMirado - FurinMirado
Smirker - Smirker

I was thinking I might vote Omega when I saw his odd mimic of DOM, but it was probably just a revenge vote + CAD-fandom. I'll probably wait a little more for my own votes.

Looks at that leading zero.
Hmmmm.
Tries to look away but can't.
It follows you no matter where you stand. There's something not right about that zero. Obviously this is all Nitestorm's fault.

Maybe Ozymandias could keep this sort of frivolous and extraneous zeros in check.

Ozymandias for lynch

and ...

Ozymandias for sheriff.

He's easily our greatest threat, and asset day 1 so why not add him to both of the ties. :flail:
For what it's worth, though, his talking to himself is awfully entertaining.-sphen
You're adorable-Rave
he is a master bullshitter so he could just take things out of his own ass or whatever comes from his mind to argue.-Rekard

Looks like Nitestorm creates a 4-way tie for lynch. Lets do that.

I can easily look away due to all your fur getting into my eyes.

Do you honestly think anyone would not see past your foolish attempt to enshrine your cursed ally into a position of power? You can't fool me. :!:

If I'm reading this right... retracted f. Admetus for the lynch, because who doesn't love a good 5-way? ...tie, I mean.

For sheriff? I still say Nitestorm could lock the cash box. Lock the cash box.

That's kind of how I read it from that post and his earlier one, but also...you know...Nitestorm.

Yes, I missed his earlier post at first but went back and caught it after reading his response to my vote for him. So I'd like him to say, in no uncertain terms, "I am the Hunter" before I worry about whether I need to move my vote.

Augie as usual was late for the party, or elections as the case may be. He always felt that anyone who wanted the job of Sheriff didn't deserve it. However his libertarian tendencies always made him en lined to vote for the most insane. Certainly Nite storm and Rave bomb fit that bill well. The best government is the one with the least ability to govern. Nitestorm it is for Sheriff. And for lack of any true inspiration, a lynch vote for CAD always worked.

I don't like Nitestorm as Sheriff because as a villager, he's always mislynched sooner or later. I also can't really believe he's a hunter.

Sphenodont, since I'm looking like I could conceivably win both Sheriff and lynch votes, what would happen then? Dead Sheriff, or would second place take over in one race?

Simple Simon can you fix it?

Simple Simon No you cant

( vote and sheriff for SS)
RaveBomb making a lot of sense is how you know you're past the point of no return and that death is the only escape.

I think you're both reading this wrong.

Nitestorm could have claimed Hunter after I told him I would elect him Sheriff if he did so, but he didn't.

That strongly suggests to me that he is not claiming Hunter.

It sounds more to me like he's a Wolf playing coy about it to see if he can get the real Hunter to show up and counter-claim. Then he can come back with "gee guys, I wasn't serious, lol". And if the Hunter doesn't come out, which it appears he has not, he might get people to vote him in as Sheriff (which is currently happening).

Sheriff vote happens first, so if you were to win and were lynched, as well, your first official act would be to nominate your successor.

And then the second would be to hang yourself.
