Day 2: Goldfish

Postby FurinMirado » 24 Feb 2014, 18:14:21

Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars…drifting endlessly through the cold, uncaring void. Welcome to Night Vale.

Dear listeners, it appears we have survived another day. Well, most of us anyway. Our intern, Jamie, was tragically killed during the festival while volunteering at the goldfish ring toss game. It appears they were not goldfish so much as vaguely fish-like nightmare spawn from another dimension. When questioned, the game’s owner replied that they were cheaper than the real thing and made more interesting pets.

At the end of the festival Hellheart was hauled off by the Sheriff’s Secret Police and creatively interrogated in the abandoned mine shaft outside of town. He confessed to being a member of Big Rico’s Big Pizza Club but nothing else. It appears he was just a Resident after all. A Resident that enjoys Big Rico’s Pizza. Which is not surprising since no one does a slice like Big Rico. No one.

We have received word that Mayor Pamela Winchell has just concluded a press conference. It appears that Mister E. Meat, with his perfect hair and teeth like a military cemetery, was seen outside the dog park with multiple shadowy figures. He was pursued- Oh no. It can’t- Our sweet Mister E. Meat was pursued into the dog park where the obsidian gates closed behind him. So there you have it, listeners. Our dear Carlos…is alive but lost in the dog park. Here is hoping that our time and place match again soon. Oh, and the mayor wishes to remind everyone that, “No one alive, dead, or in a quantum state of both alive and dead may enter the dog park.” She then began speaking in tongues as she gradually sank through the floor and disappeared.

Well it appears that the mayor’s purchase of the Rosetta Stone language learning software has paid off. She has no doubt returned home to continue her studies. As we should all be returning home. To pretend to sleep as lights float overhead and faceless intelligences decide whether we live or die. So good night, Night Vale, good night.

Mauled - Mister E. Meat – Resident Seer

Ow, losing our scientist on Night 1!

Well, then although I'm not sure if he would've had time to have sniffed out a sonofbithc.. but he did state he hated simple_simonRETRACTED yesterday (when he alluded to hearing voices).

Khoshekh timidly slinks away, frightfully aware there are predators more cunning and accurate than himself lurking about... or rather, he would slink away if he weren't stuck floating in this singular spot. So Khoshekh turns to his only other option, a restless and fitful sleep.

A couple points ...

Firstly if you're going to reference a post to use to try and put me in the ground, the least you could do is quote and link the post....

Subject: Day 1: The Festival

Mister E. Meat wrote:I guess I had better put in a vote before I forget. simple_simon, the voices I hear on the static after Cecil signs off told me to vote for you. Now I realize this looks strange since you just posted but you can blame random noise on this really!

Second point, while your powers of deduction are amazing in their inaccuracies, the seer wouldn't have gotten a vision on night 0. Therefor his post had nothing to do with a seer vision.

Good try, wolf. Smirker

Edit: Removed quoted votes.

The vote count isn't entirely correct. I'd redacted my vote in anticipation of casting a different vote. I couldn't decide on who to vote on and was going back so was going to unredact my vote, but by that time I'd missed the deadline. So not sure if that gives me a penalty vote or not.

Without much else to go on, Khoshekh finds himself curious about those who pointed second fingers, the only indexes of actual threat, toward individuals... and though Khoshekh knows it generally against station etiquette to knead his claws into new or returning visitors simply wishing to use the station's men's room, he can't help feel this one, That PJ, was uncannily -- or perphaps caninely -- belligerent.

Don't follow my lead on him, though, I like his RP.

Nobody tells me who not to follow! Except Hiram McDaniels, literally a five-headed dragon who cares. And also the City Council. And the Sheriff's Secret Police. And maybe Strexcorp.

Being a citizen in Night Vale is hard.

But I do know this: Outsiders cannot be trusted. Outsiders with their own third-person narration especially cannot be trusted. If there's someone to blame for this non-moon-related non-werewolf wolf-like plague thing, it is definitely Hellheart.

A man wearing a balaclava, mitre, cloak and a giant silver star (the man we believe to be the Sheriff of Night Vale) has just concluded a press conference. He announced, through a vocoder, that he is very disappointed with a certain member of the Sheriff's Secret Police who got himself lynched without even attempting to detain someone himself. One lucky citizen has been removed from their home in the night and anointed. He will be inducted into the Sheriff's Secret Police during the final ceremony today.

When I got a few minutes to check by phone last night, Visigoth's vote pinged my radar. We were approaching EOD, and he was tied in the lead, but his vote was on a singleton. He could have put someone else in a tie, or even pushed a person to three votes (it's not a lot, and over an hour remained on the clock). It just seemed like actively trying to stay under the radar.

Oops?

But honestly, if this member of the Sheriff's Secret Police were doing his job to begin with, we wouldn't have this not-werewolf not-howling-at-the-not-moon problem. They probably wanted him to get lynched. Certainly.

I forgive you, Khoshekh, even if you're horribly wrong in your assessment. Who couldn't forgive a cute hovering kitty with fully matured poisonous spines?

Since ICB led me astray, where should a good citizen cast his vote?

Makes sense to me. Trying to ward off suspicion by using our sentiments for fallen Carlos against us. For shame! My vote goes to Smirker, as well.

I'm concerned about this promotion last night. Can I even say that? Am I going to get "detained for questioning?"

We've been told there's no promise that the Sheriff will deputize replacements, nor re-authorize existing deputies, but this one got replaced in a hurry. I just can't imagine the Sheriff would even consider giving his blessing to a furry interloper.

(( The suggestion that the new Vigilante could be a wolf after losing both a human Seer and a human Vigilante sounds absurd. Either that's an exaggeration for dramatic effect, or perhaps all dying, unspent Vigilantes will be replaced this way, and it was the rules which were the misdirection. But either way, I don't expect FurinMirado will want to clarify... ))

10 votes in for 10 different targets . . . again, only this time that's actually 13 targets because of penalties. Are we trying to give the wolves the game? Is this a new strategy to see how long we can hold off on getting real information? I'm starting with the last person to vote a singleton that is not himself a new singleton: dferrantino - we should know better than this.

OK - got mildly distracted by work there - that was about two hours ago. I'll revisit and possibly flip over once I process the new posts, etc. I'm severely tempted to just start shooting at people who, quite frankly, should know better than to vote up a 10th or 11th singleton.

Okay, more than half the votes are in with about a third of the day left.

I agree that we can't afford a repeat of yesterday's scattered vote, and need to start building up bandwagons.

So I'm switching my vote to Clearasday, because I saw him pop online twice earlier today, and it seems odd to me that he hasn't yet voted given that he's already received a penalty vote.

Perhaps he just wanted to catch up on the Day thread. Then again, maybe he had more than one thread to catch up on ...

I guess I'll latch on to Ozymandias' reasoning and go for Clearasday. Missing a vote isn't like him.

Simon: Didn't check the rest of it, but your vote count is missing mine for Visigoth, at least.

I will agree with your point that being super spread out is not going to help analysis, but it's yet early in the day. And though you named dferrantino, more correctly you were talking about me. But what can I say? I think my suggestion is better than the others, even if it is a Day 2 straw-grasping exercise.

I'm pretty sure things will consolidate as we approach the deadline. It's not like there's a cutoff after which we are only allowed to vote for things that other people have already brought up.

I typed it well before your vote, but voting for you would have been another singleton, which would've propogated the problem I was trying to correct.

Given that EXACTLY the same thing happened yesterday, and it did not consolidate as we approached the deadline, I'm at a loss as to why you think today would be any different. I'm also just about ready to vote for Ozy as a wolf, since he's normally the first to give the consolidation speech, and I'm surprised he didn't give it yesterday. My only thoughts are that people are being extra-sensitive because Gosh! We've got Guns.

Shrug. I guess I figure the large number of days I've seen in other games outweighs the pattern of one yesterday, so I'm not panicked yet. But I hadn't thought of the "there's Guns!" aspect.

Four, Fifteen, Fourteen, Twenty
Six, Fifteen, Eighteen, Seven , Five, Twenty
Twenty, Fifteen
Four, Eighteen, Nine, Fourteen, Eleven
Twenty-five, Fifteen, Twenty-one, Eighteen
Fifteen, Twenty-two, One, Twelve, Twenty, Nine, Fourteen, Five.
Nine, Twenty-three, Nine, Nineteen, Eight, Nine, Eight, One, Four, One, Seven , Twenty-one, Fourteen.

We interrupt this broadcast for a news update.
WZZZ's station management has retracted the earlier opinion piece that aired on this channel, and no longer condemns Rictus. Station Manager Thad Eleven issued a statement saying that voting for someone with a penalty was a dick move, and completely regrettable. Mister Eleven then left the office, saying he needed to spend more time with a family.

The first 14 votes (for 14 different players) were all cast with 8+ hours left on Day 1-- I generally don't like to ask people to consolidate bandwagons until the last third of the day.

I think the nine singletons (or eight, depending on how you count Visigoth) were mainly a consequence of (a) so many players not voting on Day 1, and (b) the to-my-mind irrational widespread belief that players shouldn't do everything they can to defend themselves at EOD. That's something I've never understood.

Anyway, regardless of the absolute numbers, there was still a 6-way tie at the end of the day, so there should be plenty of useful information to analyze once we find out more about those bandwagons.

2 votes hardly constitute a bandwagon. Not really sure what there is to be said about last night's votes other than that they will probably be useless.

Switching my vote to Clearasday, in the hopes of getting something more useful than what we got last night. Or getting rid of someone who might get WOG'd anyway.

Obviously I have an ulterior motive, since I put the first vote on CAD knowing he had a penalty vote, but I'm going to disagree here on philosophical grounds.

If players who have penalty votes never receive votes, then their "penalty" is actually a bonus that unfairly protects them for another day.
