Day 1 - The Foxhunt begins

Postby Clearasday » 24 Jun 2014, 16:12:36

Day 1 - Pullum

Many Chickens had come from far and wide and close and just-over-there to settle the issue of what to do about the Foxes. Senators of all ranks and backgrounds crowded into the gloomy room atop the Featherline Hill ready to do battle with their enemies in oratory. The day quickly kicked off with a round of speeches from a group of chickens that believed that speeches should be banned. There was some back and forth over this with a large number of chickens disagreeing and a similiar amount of chickens just talking for the sake of it.

A few more issues of minor note were discussed, with even one young chicken arguing that 'maybe we should all close the doors or something so our enemies don't get in'. This motion was laughed at and the doors remained wide-open. Finally, when the subject had been dodged for too long, they took to debating the main issue that had gathered them at such short notice in the hall.

Ovid clucked and puffed up his feathers to call the assembled chicken senators to order. "Brethren, I have called this meeting in order to deal with the glaring problem facing our coop. THE FOXES!" A wave of nervous glancing and feet-pecking spread through the assembled chickens. "Livy was found dead yesterday at the edge of the coop with an empty amphora in his hand. Yes my brothers, a dead chicken was found, trademark work of none other than... foxes." The thought of this was too much for many of the more faint of heart chickens.

Maximus Decimus Meridius, the famed War-Chicken piped up at this. "Uh isn't it just as likely he fell off the roof of the coop yesterday after one of his all-night insane drinking parties? Why do we always assume that Foxes are behind every one of our troubles? Has anyone actually seen any evidence of a single Fox around these parts? Shouldn't we be more concerned with the growing rumours of our chickens joining insidious cults?"

At the mention of the word Cults, several hooded chickens began whistling as noticably as possible. One of them quickly approached Maximus and slid a dagger into his side.

There was a moments pause.

Then someone screamed "The Foxes have murdered Maximus!" and the room fell into disorder once again.

When the madness (and quite a few chickens) had died down, a now black-eyed Ovid took to the stage again. "We must find the Foxes. Let the Lynching begin."

Maximus Decimus Meridius - Commander of the armies of the North has died. He was a flavourtext character.

Day 1 ends 24 hours from now.
THERE IS NO JUSTICE, THERE IS JUST CLEARASDAY.

You are using Bonetti’s Defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting considering the rocky terrain.

Naturally, you must suspect me to attack with Capa Ferro?

Naturally, but I find that Thibault cancels out Capa Ferro. Don’t you?

Unless the enemy has studied his Agrippa… which I have.

Brothers and Sisters, we gather here today to mourn the loss of a devoted disciple of the Lord and pray for guidance. He discovered that some of our flock has fallen into idolatry. I believed that they were misguided souls that could be redeemed. I asked the Lord to show me how I could redeem them, but I received no answer to my prayer. But when I asked God to help us survive these trials I received a vision. I saw twisted mutated figures that had been chickens and I saw a soul twisting sickness that spreads like a plague. Satan's influence has corrupted their souls beyond any hope of redemption and this corruption will spread like a disease. We must purge this evil sickness by purifying it with holy fire. We have been put to the test like Job once was. Like Job we must not falter in our faith and devotion to the Lord no matter how bleak this situation may become.

Let us pray.

Lord, give us the strength to face the trials ahead with unwavering faith and devotion. Guide our thoughts and actions so that we may expose and purify those who have turned against Your flock. Help us to root out the corruption we cannot see and give us the power to eliminate its evil influence before it can destroy us all.

There's a place where the restless souls remember. Penned in by grief, they wait for a chance to set the wrong things right. Sometimes, a crow shows them the way. The devil is in the details, and the cost of such bargains is high: if at first you don't succeed, you will never know peace.

An iterative process across the whole of known history, there have been a lot of crows. All wronged in life & mostly unsuccessful in their revenge. All indefinitely delayed: Immortal, at least to the things which would kill the common gallus gallus domesticus.

I looked around the paddock. Hackles raised, and expressions torn with anguish over the violence:
Image

They looked to me for guidance, and I longed to protect them from the darkness. Was I condemned to spend eternity wandering to keep others safe?

For a time, I thought I could cross the road and escape the game.

But a being who called himself only "The Colonel" vowed to hunt down my friends, one by one, until I sickened of it and came out of sanctuary to fight him. He took Wilbur, serving him up as rashers for the farmhands. He squashed Templeton under his heel. But Fran, my poor sweet Fran... he let her linger. Using her again and again with taunts of "chicks in hot oil". He left her battered and fried for me to find as a final insult.

Stepping away from the holy ground of Fern's final resting place, I girded my feathers for battle. It was time: I was coming home to roost.

I am Marcus Porcius Cato Uticensis, commonly known as Cato the Younger (Do not call me Cato Minor). Like my great-grandfather Cato the Elder, I was a politician and statesbird in the late Roman Republic before the dark times. Like him, I was a follower of the Stoic philosophy: we came from the same flock, different nest.

I am Immortal and I am not alone. For centuries we've waited for the time of the Gathering. Do you know what they call a gathering of crows Agrippa? A murder. A murder of crows.

Wait just one second. Are the crows on the same side as the foxes? Why is my twin brother a half-Dalek? When did they start electing Popes so young? Why do we do as the Romans do when we're in Branson? And why does Nero keep playing that damned cithara all night?

Romulus and Remus were raised by wolves, but does that mean they are also in league with foxes? No, for the fox does not lay with the wolf and vice versa.

Though a fox/wolf hybrid would be the end of our Poultry Empire.

RETRACTED FROM Domitian, I could have sworn that I saw red fur sticking out of your feathers earlier.

What do you mean "wolves"? What sort of BS have you gotten us into this time?

Wolves. Fur, teeth, eat chickens.

That brings me to my second point, WE'RE CHICKENS!

Your powers of observation are still intact. Unfortunately so is your voice.

WHY the CLUCK are we CHICKENS?

Watch the one called Cincinnatus, there is something odd about it.

....

Just shut up, and watch.
